Thousands of mourners have gathered in Jerusalem to remember the 8 victims of Thursday night's attack of Jewish Religion School. Witnesses say the gunman enter the crowded room at the seminary and open fire with the rifle, killing 8 people and wounding 35. Here's Israelite police spokesman M.R.
'..saw the number of students, he shot students that he saw, and he was shot and killed at the * of the library.'
Police say the gunman was a 25-year old Pakistani resident of east Jerusalem. The attack was the worst to occur in Israel in two years. Israelite forces have restricted travel from the west bank, where the gunman lived, until Saturday evening.
Iraqi's Security Officials have raised death toll from Thursday's twin-bomber attacks in Bagdad to at least 68. Police say more than 120 people were wounded when the two bombers went off within minutes of each other, destroying shops and cars and crowded neighborhood in Iraqi capital. No one has claimed responsibility for the attack. A senior US military officer in Bagdad describes the attack as a senseless act violence against the Iraqi people.
Pakistan in the mixed of the attempt to form a new government will see the parliament convene within two weeks. President Pervez Musharraf says he will call the national and provincial Assemblies together. He has pledged to support the new government that will be formed by the law-makers. VOA conrespendent Steve Herman has more from Islamabad.
Under fires since the Feburay,18 election for not calling parliament decision, President Pervez Musharraf on Friday announced that law makers are to convene here a week or two. And the embattled leader promises there will be no hurdles put in their way as they try to form a new coalition government. Former Generals, beginning in S provinces, praised the force of moderation for triumph in last month's election. President whose fate after parliament convenes is a matter of intense speculation, is pledging to back the next government. Musharraf says if peace is maintained, he will fully support the incoming government. Just who will head that government still remains unclear. The Pakistan People' Party known as the PPP, has not yet announced whom it will nominate for prime minister. The party of the assassinated Benazir Buhtto was the best performer in the February 18 election and is negotiating with the Runnerup, the party led by former Prime Minster Nawaz Sharif on the lineup for the new government. Thailand says it will investigate a Russian man for illegal arm sells before it deports him to the United States where he is accused to trying to sell weapons to a rebel group in Colombia. Authorities displayed Viktor Bout to reporters in Bangkok today. US officials want him to be extradited after Federal officials in New York charged him with conspiring to provide material support to the revolutionary arm force of Colombia, or FARC. Thailand authorities say the prosecutors have yet to decide that Bout will first face trial in their country, on charge of giving weapons and financial support to terrorists. Bout faces up to ten years in a Thai prison if convicted.
The UN Children's Fund says it has received permission from the government of Chad to return 103 children to their families. The children were taken from their homes in Chad by French charity workers, who said they believe the children were orphans from Sudan's Sudan's D region. But an international investigation found most of the children were Chadian, with a least one parent or guardian alive. The children have been held in an orphanage for the passed five months.
Georgia is criticizing Russia for lifting trade and financial sanctions on the Georgia's separatist region of A, which is seeking recognition as an independent country. George's Foreign Minster issued a statement today, saying Russia's action is an attempt to infringe on George sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Zimbabwe is excluding the United States and European Union officials from a list of election monitors for the March 29 elections. The state-controlled H newspaper quoted the nations Foreign Affair Minister as saying allies of President Robert M will serve as monitors. He said the government has selected 47 foreign observer teams from the African Union, Russian, Kenya, Iran and other nations that maintain relations with the M government.
