Iraqi Prime Minister ??? says negotiations with the United States about a long-term security agreement have reached what he called a dead end. The Iraqi leader said the two sides are unable to make progress. He blamed what he called ‘unacceptable American demands’ that interfere with Iraqi self-government. Mr. ??? spoke during a visit to Jordan. American and Iraqi officials have been negotiating an agreement to let United States forces remain in Iraq after December 31st. The United Nations set that date for the United States to leave Iraq. The two nations also are seeking a separate agreement about future political and economic kinds.

China and Taiwan have signed an agreement to begin direct flights between Mainland China and the island. Under the agreement, Mainland Chinese will be permitted to visit Taiwan. Negotiators for the two sides signed the agreement Friday during a second day of talks in Beijing. They are the first official meetings between China and Taiwan since 1999. Private passenger flights will be permitted on Saturday and Sunday beginning next month. Except for especial holidays, there have been no direct flights between Mainland China and Taiwan for almost 60 years.

The Palestinian group ??? says a home exploded in the Gaza Strip Thursday by accident. Seven people died in the explosion. The group said Friday that the explosion happened while its members were preparing a bomb attack. At first ??? blamed the Israeli military. But Group’s supporters fired about 50 rockets and other weapons at southern Israel and an Israeli woman was injured in the attack. Israel denied involvement in the explosion.

An American official says reports of detainee abuse in the early years of the ??? Bay Prisoner Camp have given the United States an bad image. Defense Secretary ??? Gates reacted in Beijing to a decision Thursday of the United States Superior Court. The court ruled that foreign terrorism suspects held at the ???
