Come on, already, and now we are, oh, we are gonna go over to the state dining room. So here in the state room, this is a long-held tradition-the White House’s gingerbread house.

Is it really ginger bread?

Yes, and…

Hi.

Hi.

This is Bill Yosses, who is the
head pastry chef. He is to blame for any additional calories I brought on here.

White House executive pastry chef Bill Yosses said his team spent months planning, crafting and assembling this year’s white-chocolate-covered ginger bread masterpiece.

This gingerbread house took us six weeks to build, it weighs approximately 390 pounds, 140 pounds of that is the ginger bread which is the foundation inside, and then another 250 pounds of white chocolate on the outside. This year we’ve used the Mrs. Obama’s vegetable garden as the thematic part of the gingerbread house.

The gingerbread house tradition started in 1969 with the Nixons’. Their small candy house didn’t get much attention, but over the years, the first family’s gingerbread house has become the main attraction in the state dining room.

Each presidential family has also added their own personal touch: a mailbox with Amy Carter’s name on it, a path made out of jelly beans as a nod to President Reagan’s favorite candy, and Millie the dog made out of marzipan for First Lady Barbara Bush, and sitting outside of this year’s house, there’s that handsome Bo.

So now we are coming into the red room, and speaking of traditions, this room….

It is red.

It is red.

It is really red.

So it’s very clear, but one of the traditions is that this room has generally been decorated in some way with cranberries. We maintain that with this particular decoration.

Oh, I love this idea. Are these dry cranberries?

Yeah.

It is a nice idea..

They are beautiful.

Beautiful.

I just noticed at the president’s Oval Office, there’re dry hydrangeas inside the tree, I like that idea too.

Yes, yeah, you’ll see that throughout, the dry, there’re dry hydrangeas here, in the trees, in the state room as well.

Yes, it’s in there too.

But you have to start drying them really…’cause it takes a lot.

Could take at least a week.

Yes, right.

You can’t start now. But this is a good idea for your hydrangeas bushes.

That’s right, that’s right.

Ok, so from the red room to the blue room.

This is where the grand trees is, this is my favorite tree. And isn’t it interesting when you look from the outside, it looks like this tree goes on forever.

Oh…
