Weeks after Lybian leader Mouammar gadaffhi bagan a deadly and brutal counter-attack against its rebels in the eastern part of his country. The U.S. president Barake Obama declared that it's the American interest to stop the violence.
"Left unchecked, we have every reason to believe that Quadaffhi would commit atrocities against its people. Many thousands would die, and humanitarian crisis would ensue. The entire region will be destablized and endangering many of our allies and partners."
In the east room of the White House, Obama said Quadaffi has a choice. Honor a U.S.-backed ceasefire and a no-fly zone or face the military actions from the U.S. and our allies.
Let me be clear, these terms are not negotiable, these terms are not subject to negotiation. If Quadaffi does not comply with the resolution, the international community will impost consequences. And the resolution will be enforced through military action.
Although the U.S. is deploying additional amphibious ships to the Mediterranean, Obama pointedly ruled out the idea of deploying American ground troops in Lybia. |
