提高英语听力能力 找对方法很重要!

The great irony is today's market dominance is about as far away from where Google started out as it's possible to imagine. To understand why Google has become so rich and so influential, we need to go back to a more idealistic period in the company's history.

Like the Web itself, Google began as an academic dream. Stanford University in California has a reputation for academic excellence, but its alumni have a track record of turning research into money.

'You don't go to Stanford and not know that there's a very high probability that when you get to the end of graduate school you are going to start a company or you might never get to the end of graduate school because you are going to start a company. '

Back in 1996, Larry Page and Sergey Brin were PhD students investigating how they could sort the good pages on the Web from the dross. The Web then consisted of about ten million pages, compared to the tens of billions today. But it was expanding rapidly, so it was already impossible for humans to gvisit and rate each website. Page and Brin developed a way for computers to automatically do the job. I went to their mentor, Professor Terry Winograd, to find out more about their breakthrough.

'They realized that every time a person puts a link on their own webpage to some other page, they are in a sense voting; they are in a sense saying 'That's interesting enough for me to put a link there.' Therefore as they could add up all those links from everybody who built web pages, they would get a result which was going to be a very close approximation what what's really interesting to the general public.'

Page and Brin devised an algorithm to calculate  links between pages on the Web and it gave an independent mathematical value of how interesting a page was based on the number of links to it and whether those incoming links were from pages that were themselves interesting.

Page and Brin realized that what had begun as an academic project could actually be used to solve one of the biggest challenges on the Web - how to find what you are looking for.

Back in 1996 Larry Page and S G were Phd students investigating how they could ** the good pages on the web from the dross. The web then consisted of about 10 million pages, compared to the tens of billions today. But it was expanding rapidly. So it was already impossible for humans to visit and rate each web site. P B developed a way for computers to automatically do the job.I went to meet their mentor, Professor Terry W to find out more about their breakthrough.
They realized that every time a person puts a link on their own web page to some other page, they are in a sense of voting, they are in a sense saying that's interesting enough for me to put a link there. And therefore they could add up all of those votes from everybody who built web pages they would get a result which was going to be a very close appoximation to what really is interesting to the general public.
Page brings device and algorithm to calculate links between pages on the web. And it gave an independent mathematical value of how interesting a page was based on the number of links to it and whether those incoming links were from pages that were themselves interesting. Page realized what had begun as an academic project could actually be used to solve one of the biggest challenges on the web, how to find what you are looking for.

The great irony of the market dominance is that it goes far away from where Google started out. as possible, to imagine. To understand what makes Google the rich and influential company, we have to go back to the idealist period in the company’s history. Google, like the web itself, began as the academic dream. Stanford University in California has a long reputation for its academic excellence but for a long time, it has a track of reputation for converting academic projects into business. You go to Stanford and don’t know there is a very high possibility that you will go to the end of undergraduate, and start up your own company, or you will never go to the end of the undergraduate because you start up your company. Leig Page and …are the phdist investigating how they can sort a paper from the dross. The web consists of ten million pages compared to the tens of billions today, and it is expanding rapidly. It was alread impossible for human to visit all the websites. Page developed a way for the computer automatically do the job. I went to meettheir mentor ….to find out more about the breakthrough. They realized at each time people put links on their website to other links, they innocently vote, they innocently say that is interesting enough for them. Therefore, if they can add up all the votes from everybody who builds up the websites, they will get the result is going to be more closely appropriate to what is really interesting to general public.  Page developed the devices with algebra to calculate the links between pages on the web and Etha gave the mathematic value about how interesting the page was based on the links to it and whether it was the incoming links or links from web itself. Interesting. Page and Bensoon realized the what is gone as the academic project could solved the biggest challenge on the web-- how to find what you are looking for.
