the long running political protesters are beginning to hurt Thailand's
economy. the benchmark index, the SET or stock exchange of Thailand has
dropped 12% in the past month. the Thai Baht has seen the slide of more
than 6% again the US dollar. Now this line shows the US dollar strengthening
since the beginning of November when these protesters began. Singapore airline
is cancelling some flights to Bangkok in January and February because of
the falling demand. Tourism accounts around 7% of Thailand's GDP, and a
travel industrial association says the number of domestic visitor to Bankok
has fallen 20% because of this unrest, that's dropped about 400,000 people.
international visitors numbers are down about 8%. the association says
the biggest decrease are among Japanese tourist who are sensitive to
political turmoil, despite that, the tourism authority estimated the number
of people visiting Thailand in the whole 2013 was up by 17%.
Now this protesters stand firmly and aim to build current government
propose which was seen as move primary minister, YingLuck Shinawatra, to
allow her brother, the former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, to return
from exile, he had been ousted in 2006-2.
Now the prime minister has dissolved the parliament and call for snap
election in early February, but Meggi has not alleviated the tension or
the impact on the Thailand economy. |
