Now to the other big news in the world of sports, basketball superstar Kobe Bryant announcing his retirement last night, saying this season, his 20th in the NBA, will be his last. Jesse is here with that. Good morning, Jesse.

Good morning, Robin, you know, Kobe's Numbers on the court are truly staggering. He is one of the greatest players of all time, leading the Lakers to five NBA titles. But as we know in sports, all good things must come to an end.

“Three on its way. Got it!”

A nail-biting finish and the end of an era.

“He has to smile on that one.”

NBA legend Kobe Bryant, announcing just hours before tip-off Sunday night, this season will be his last, posting this poetic farewell to the game on the player’s tribune. “Dear basketball,” he writes, “this season is all I have left to give. My heart can take the pounding, my mind can handle the grind, but my body knows it's time to say good-bye.”

“I honestly feel good about it, I really do. I really feel at peace with it. And, you know, excited for what's to come.”

The Philadelphia native dominating the sport for two decades.

“Though he's 18, he'll be a key guy for the Lakers.”

Entering the NBA directly from high school, and playing for the Los Angeles Lakers for a record 20 years, his entire career.

“Over for two.”

His list of superlatives, unmatched. 5 NBA championships, a 17-time all-star, two Olympic gold medals and scoring more points than the great Michael Jordan himself. Fans in attendance Sunday night each receiving a letter from the basketball great, reading: “My love for this city, this team, and for each of you, will never fade.” And though his game isn’t what it used to be, he'll forever be known…

“Kobe Bryant has hit a shot at the buzzer!”

…as one of the greatest players of all time.

And a lot of celebs acknowledging the great. Justin Timberlake, who’s often in a spot of courtside in Lakers’ game tweeted: “One of the TRUE KINGS of the game. You are one of the greatest to ever do it, my friend.” Guys?

He truly was, Jesse. And to stay in one place…

Amazing.

That just doesn't happen. In 20 years he’s been that's what he wanted to be -- a Laker and…

He sure was.

The Numbers he put up, but his passion and the poem he wrote.

Absolutely.

It was beautiful.

It was beautiful.

And he's not even 40.

No, 37, 37.

He's got…you're not old, Kobe, maybe basketball terms, but trust me.

You're gonna see him tomorrow.

I am. I'm going to Philadelphia tomorrow. I’m gonna sit down with him before his game, and that's where he played high school ball, that’s where he first became a legend, and then he left right from high school to the L.A. Lakers.

We'll get to see it Wednesday morning…

That’s it.

…here on GMA.

Great.
