英国广播公司:巴赫:激情的一生 BBC: Bach:A Passionate Life

John Eliot Gardiner goes in search of Bach the man and the musician. The famous portrait of Bach portrays a grumpy 62-year-old man in a wig and formal coat, yet his greatest works were composed 20 years earlier in an almost unrivalled blaze of creativity. We reveal a complex and passionate artist; a warm and convivial family man at the same time a rebellious spirit struggling with the hierarchies of state and church who wrote timeless music that is today known world-wide. Gardiner undertakes a 'Bach Tour' of Germany, and sifts the relatively few clues we have - some newly-found. Most of all, he uses the music to reveal the real Bach.

Johann Sebastian Bach is the utmost composite composer, influencing countless others who followed him, from Mozart to Mendelssohn, Beethoven to Brahms, and not just in classical music, from Duke Ellington to the Beatles, musicians in jazz and pop have also followed under his spell and learned from his techniques. Bach is still the benchmark, a musical gold standard.

We know very little about Bach’s life. There are only a few facts to go on and our image of him xx by statues and paintings have a stern forbidding figure in a xx coat and a powdered wig, a xx music.

The music tells us something complete different about him. It’s full of energy, full of dance, full of life.

Over a lifetime of getting to know, singing and conducting Bach’s music, I fold a series of hunches about his personality and character. And in this film, I want to test them out with fellow Bach enthusiasts and scholars, and perform some of his most important works, to see what they can tell us about the extraordinary man who composed them.

“He really thrills everything xx. You know, it’s just such an overwhelming aspiration of what is to be human being.”

“I think he is a scientist work, and instead of using the language of mathematics, he’s a scientist using music.”

“The level of inspiration on which he works is, I think, unparalleled in the rest of music.”

[Homework]2016-05-23 BBC:巴赫:激情的一生 Bach:A Passionate Life-1

Johann Sebastian Bach is the ultimate composers' composer, influencing countless others, who followed him from Mozart to Mendelssohn, Beethoven to Brahms, and not just in classical music, from Duke Ellington to the Beatles, musicans in jazz and pop have also followed under his spell and learned from his techniques. Bach is still the benchmark and musical gold standard. We know very little about Bach's life. There are only a few facts to go on, and our image of him is s* by statues and paintings. Have a stern forbidding figure in a frock coat and a powdered wig. But then there is music.
-And the music tells us something completely different about him. It's full of energy, full of dance, full of life.
Over a lifetime of getting to know, singing and conducting Bach's music, I formed a series of hunches about his personality and character. And in this film, I want to test them out, with fellow Bach enthusiasts and scholars, and to perform some of his most important works, to see what they can tell us about the extramordinary man who composed them.
-He really shows everything as it. You know, it's just such an overwhelming expression of what is to be human being.
-I think he's a scientist at work, and instead of using the language of mathmatics, he's a scientist using music.
-The level of inspiration, on which he works, I think on parallel to the rest of the music.
