The President of Israel is warning against politicizing support for the country. That's after President Trump said US Jews who vote for the Democratic Party are disloyal to Israel. NPR's Daniel Estrin has more from Jerusalem.
Last week two Democratic Congresswomen Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib were denied entry to Israel at Trump's encouragement because they support a movement to boycott Israel over its treatment to Palestinians. President Trump returned to the subject as he left the White House on Wednesday.
"In my opinion, you vote for Democrats, you have been very disloyal to Jewish people and you have been very disloyal to Israel. And only weak people would say anything other than that."
In a statement, Israeli President
Reuven Rivlin says he spoke with House Speaker Democrat Nancy Pelosi and told her "we must keep the state of Israel above political disputes and make every effort to ensure that support for Israel does not become a political issue." He says US-Israel ties are "not dependent on the relationship with one particular party". Daniel Estrin, NPR news, Jerusalem.

Russian leader Vladimir Putin is blasting the US for the test of a new missile banned under a now-defunct arms treaty, saying it raises new threat to Russia and were warn to response.
The Pentagon recently announced it conducted a test of a modified ground-launched version of a navy Tomahawk cruise missile, which struck a target some 310 miles away. This past Sunday the test launch came after the US and Russia both withdrew from the 1987 intermediate range nuclear forces INF treaty, which has banned such weapons.

Today President Trump made it easier for some 25,000 veterans to have their federal student loans discharged. NPR's Cory Turner reports the move comes after the State Attorney General reach Education Secretary Betsy DeVos to make that change.
The law says that any veteran who is permanently unable to work due to a service-related disability qualifies to have his or her federal student loan debt erased. The problem up to this point is that veterans have had to ask for it by submitting paper work. In a letter to DeVos several months ago, State Attorney General from 47 states, Washington DC and several US territories urged the government to make this loan discharge automatic. And now, the administration has agreed, making the loan discharge process for these veterans opt-out instead of opt-in. Cory Turner, NPR news.

Home sales took a slight bump up in July, a sign lower mortgage interest rate might be giving the housing market a bit of a boost. According to the National Association of Realtors, existing home sales erupt 2.5% last month.

The Judge who is overseeing the federal sex trafficking case of now deceased financier Jeffrey Epstein is inviting both his accusers and their lawyers to a hearing next week. US District Court Judge Richard Berman sided to conduct a brief hearing Tuesday will consider prosecutor's request to dismiss indictment since Epstein killed himself in prison earlier this month. Once powerful and well-connected financier was accused of sexually abusing girls and young women.

Scientists of the Florida Aquarium today announced they, for the first time, induced Atlantic coral to spawn in a laboratory. Member station WUSF in Tampa Steve Newborn report, gives hope for the bligged Florida reef.
Florida's coral reefs are beset by climate-related diseases and factors such as bleaching and ocean acidification. And coral, like many species, aren't able to evolve fast enough. Scientist Keri O’Neil says that all of the offspring they sired now have slightly different genetics than their parents.
"So if you produce a thousand individuals there may be a handful in there that now are expressing the genes that are resistant to bleaching or resisting to disease."
Laboratory responding has already been done with Pacific coral and O’Neil says this effort will bring edited genetic diversity to race in Florida and the Caribbean. For NPR News, I am Steve Newborn, in Tampa.

President Trump was expressing displeasure with Denmark's rejection of his idea for US to buy Greenland. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen labeled the idea absurd and says she was disappointed and surprised that the Trump Administration cancelled the scheduled meeting next month in Denmark.
