As Hurricane Dorian moves towards the U.S. coast, preparations are underway. While still a Category 1 hurricane, there are fears Dorian could strengthen, possibly to a Category-4 storm with winds upwards of 130 miles an hour when it hits the U.S. Monday. Officials say the storm's path is still unclear though it is expected to make a landfall somewhere between the Florida Keys and southern Georgia. Florida's Governor, Ron DeSantis, says he's already seen lines for storm supplies as he travels from x in central Florida. As we are driving to and from the airport, you saw lines for gas, people going into the grocery store to get water. You know, we don't want to see people waiting in line. But people are heeding the call and just be prepared. President Trump will not be making a trip to Poland because of the storm. The Rolling Stones are again rescheduling a concert in Miami. That concert was originally set for April, but had to be moved due to the singer x's health issues.


And Iranian attempt to launch a rocket in the space has again ended in failure. Here's NPR's x. Dramatic satellite imagery shared with NPR shows smoke billowing from the launch pad in northern Iran. The imagery was taken by the commercial company Planet early Thursday. x with the x Institute of International Studies has analyzed the picture. It looks like x blowup on the path. It's highly likely that ?. The Trump administration has criticized Iran's space program, saying the same technology could be used in long-range missiles. This is the third failure of an Iranian space rocket this year. x, NPR News, Washington.


Among the many problems plaguing immigrant detention facilities, they are now dealing with an outbreak of mumps. That's according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. More from NPR's x. The CDC says 898 probable and confirmed mumps cases have occurred in 57 immigrant detention facilities in 19 states since last September. And mumps outbreaks are still underway in 50 facilities in seven states. Mumps is caused by a virus. Symptoms typically include swollen glands, puffy cheeks, fever, ? headaches. In rares cases, the disease can cause severe complications, including deafness and ?. x, NPR News.


Fewer Americans were signing contracts to buy homes last month, ? despite low mortgage interest rates. Some buyers are having a difficult time affording a home. The National Association of Realtors says it's pending home sales index to climb 2.5% in July. Pending sales are down roughly 0.3 of a percent from a year ago. And uncertainties about the future direction of the U.S. economy is also weighing on would-be home buyers.


A strong session on Wall Street, with stocks marching higher with renewed hopes new talks between U.S. and China set for next month would be production. The Dow was up 326 points.

A Russian opposition leader said she was attacked outside her Moscow home after calling for renewed anti-government protests. As NPR's x reports from Moscow, the Russian capital has seen the largest demonstrations in years after opposition candidates were barred from city council elections. x, a 31-year-old lawyer who was denied a spot on the city council ballot, has emerged as a leader of the summer's protests. She says an unknown assailant splashed her with a greenish liquid as she was getting into a cab to go to work. An accomplice filmed the incident on his phone. x said social media she wouldn't give up and will continue fighting for the rights of Moscow residents. She repeated her call for supporters to turn up for a rally this weekend, even though has not been authorized by Moscow's mayor, a close ally of President Vladimir Putin. Most of x's fellow opposition candidates are serving short jail sentences in the run-up to September election. x, NPR News, Moscow.


Device maker Apple says it's welcoming India's decision to relax rules on direct foreign investment. It says it's eager to open its first retail store in the country. The California-based company, in a statement today, said it appreciates the move by India's government to support new rules which would ease a 30% local sourcing requirement for a single brand retailing and permit on-line sales without the prior opening of brick-and-mortar stores. Apple had not opened a store in India because it said it could not meet the requirements there.


Crude ? prices closed higher today. Oil was up 93 cents a barrel to 56.71 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
