Nearly 50,000 General Motors workers will walk off the job at midnight after the United Auto Workers union and GM failed to reach a new contract. Michigan Radio's Tracy Samilton has more. It's the first time that UAW has waged to strike against General Motors since 2007. Union Vice President Terry Dittes called the strike ‘last resort’. He says the Union and General Motors remain far apart on wages, healthcare benefits, profit-sharing and a path to permanent jobs for temporary workers. 'What we are asking of General Motors is simple and fair.' General Motors says the decision is disappointing. The auto maker says it offered workers increases in pay and profit-sharing as well as unspecified methods for assembly plants in Michigan and Ohio that the auto maker is closing. For NPR news, I'm Tracy Samilton.

Several Democratic presidential candidates are calling for the impeachment of Supreme Court justice Brett Kavanaugh after a new uninvestigated allegation of sexual impropriety from when he was in college. NPR's Shannon Van Sant has more. The New York Times reports the allegation stems from his time at Yale University and the FBI did not investigate it. The claim is similar to one made during his conformation profess by Harvard classmate Deborah Ramirez. Kavanaugh denied allegations of impropriety during his testimony before senate last year. Julian Castro said it's clear Kavanaugh lied under oath and said he should get impeached. Senators Kamala Harris and Elizabeth Warren both tweeted, also calling for Kavanaugh's impeachment. President Trump nominated Kavanaugh and has dismissed the latest allegation as a lie. Shannon Van Sant, NPR news, Washington.

From member station WBHM, Mary Scott Hodgin reports that a crowd gathered to remember the four young girls who were killed. 'We have gathered 56 years later to continue telling the story, a story that America cannot deny and we will not allow to be forgotten.' At 10:22 A.M., church officials rang the bells to remember each of the four young black girls who were killed on September 15th, 1963.
