Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Jeanine Herbst.

White House is declining to participate House impeachment proceedings. NPR's Ayesha Rascoe reports House democrats had offered to allow president Trump to send council to represent him at the hearings.

White House council Petts Blonyx rejected the offer from democrats ahead the deadline set by the House judiciary committee. In a short two pair rough letters Blonyx said the inquiry is quote completely baseless. He said democrats should end the probe now and not waste him more time with hearings. But House speaker Nancy Pelosi has already announced that democrats intend to move ahead with drafting articals of an impeachment against Trump. The judiciary committee would be holding a hearing next week that would allow staff attendants for both democrats and republicans to present their perspectives on evidence for impeachment. Ayesha Rascoe NPR News, the White House.

Meanwhile the top Republican on the committee, Doug Collins also sent a letter to House judiciary committee chair Jerry Nadler urging him to subpoena several people including the whistleblower, Hunter BIden, and House intelligence chair Adam Schiff. Collins also wants Republicans to be allowed to call their own witnesses.

Security video from inside of a border patrol cell is contradicting the official account of the death of a sick Guantanamo teenage who died in Federal custody in May. As NPR's John Burnett reports that video which was released today by the news website ProPublica appears to show that federal agents did not perform well for checks on the dying youngster as they had claimed.

Disturbing black and white video shows Carlos Gregorio Hernandez collasping on the concrete floor of border patrol holding cell in south Texas. Then he's seen getting out, moving to the toilet and collasping again. That's where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy gave the cause as flu and pneumonia. Hernandez laid on the floor for nearly five hours. His cellmate discovered his motion with body and notified the agents. This directly challenges border patrol's account that agents performed well their checks all night long and ultimately discovered his body. The agency has been harshly criticized for its decision to put the sick boy in a barren hodling cell instead of transporting to the hospital. Border patrol says it can not comment because the death is under investigation. John Burnett NPR News.
