Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Jeanine Herbst.

House intelligence committee chairman Adam Schiff says lawmakers may subpoena natioanl secutiry advisor John Bolton, a former security advisor as part of the impeachment of president Trump. NPR's Laurel Wamsley has more.

In an interview on CBS's Face the Nation, Schiff said that committee is considering subpoena in Bolton. Though he believes of the senate that should be asking Bolton to testify.

If there're gonna be trials of fact they will be, they should hear from the witness directly. He is offered to comfort and testify. There is no reason not to have him testified unless you just want to cover up the president's wrong doing.

The House impeached president Trump last month for abuse of power in obstruction of congress. Speaker Nancy Pelosi has said she plans to send articles of impeachment to the senate this week, show me with House democrats on Tuesday to discuss a vote on the lawmakers who will serve as impeachment managers. Pelosi has called on senate majority leader Mitch McConnell to call witnesses at the senate's trial including Bolton, who offered to testify after the House voted to impeach. In Iran a second day of protest in Teheran over the downing of Ukrainian passenger jet by Iran's military that left 176 people dead. The BBC's Sebastian Usher has more.

Azadi or freedom square in Teheran is among the places where anti-government protests are bing held. The chanted slogans condemned state propaganda which is being shown up by the shooting down of the passenger plane in which so many Iranians died. Some of those demonstrating have denounced as lies the habitual demonization of the US, as the coups over Iran's tribals. Some pro-government media have been covering the demonstrations. The sign behaved the authority's belief but allowing people to vent their rage and grief may helpful stall a major new wave of protests across the country.

The French government says it will drop plans to increase the retirement age for now. It's an effort to end a strike that has paralyzed Paris and its suburb. NPR's Eleanor Beardsley reports the prime minister though has called on unions to act responsibly.

Speaking on the nightly news Sunday, prime minister Edouard Philippe said those who inset strikes to continue the strike are leading them into a dead end. The more reforms trade unions welcome to compromise an announcement and said they are now ready to work with employers on the sustainable financing of the state run retirement system. But two hardline unions say they are standing firm until the government withdraws its retirement overhaul plan. The hardliners are calling for strikes and protest to continue. The French rail operator, the SNCF said it expects train services to improve on Monday. Parisians are hoping their metro will soon be running normally too. Eleanor Beardsley NPR News, Paris.

One of the most active volcanoes in the Philippine is being closely monitored after it generated a large plume of ash. The Taal volcano in the south of the capital of Manila, where NPR's Julie McCarthy reports thousands have been evacuated.

The plume of ash Taal volcano produced temporarily grounded flights at the Manila's international airport, raising the alert level authorities warned activity of the volcano was intensifying. And the hazardous eruption could be imminent. Loud booming sounds were reported from Taal, which is part of chainable volcanoes lines in the Philippine's biggest island, Luzon. Sitting on the island within a lake, Taal volcano is a unique geological formation that attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists. Residents on the nearby mainland were told to prepare for any eventuality. The Phillipines lines within the pacific ring of fire, a size may clay active arch that extends from Japan to Indonesia. In Boston tomorrow, the founder and former top employees of a pharmaceutical company will be sentenced for a bribery scheme that prosecutors say helped fuel the opioid crisis. The case against insist therapeutics is  considered the first to hold an opioid maker and its executives criminally responsible. The opioid crisis has left nearly 400,000 people dead over the past two decades. At least two other companies, a drug distributer in New York and another in Ohio have also been hit with criminal charges.
