Adm. Mike Gilday, the chief of naval operations, had early recommended that Captain Brett Crozier be reinstated to the job he lost after his letter was leaked to the press. But now Gilday says that after further investigation, he has determined that both Crozier and his immediate supervisor, Rear Adm. Stuart Baker, fell well short of what expected of those in command. Baker's promotion to a second star officer has been postponed. Gilday says Crozier did not do enough, soon enough to get sailors up to 5000 crew carrier in inter-quarantine. He also says Crozier's letter was unnecessary because Navy action was already underway to deal with the virus that sickened hundreds on the ship and led to one death.
