1.    Congressional Republicans are weighing in on the Trump adm's decision to fire the US attorney for the southern district of NY. NPR's XX reports, prosecutor Geoffrey Berman was forced to resign this weekend by attorney general William Barr.

Speaking on ABC's "This Week", South Carolina Senator Tim Scott downplayed Berman's ouster.

"President Trump actually hired Mr. Berman and he fired Mr. Berman. Everyone at the DOJ司法部 works at the pleasure of the president, number one.
Number two, there’s no indication what's so ever that whatever is being investigated, will not continue to move on."

The House Judiciary Committee is set to open an investigation this week into political interference at the Justice Department. As part of the probe Congressional Democrats say they plan to look into Berman's resignation. Berman's office had investigated numerous associates of President Trump including Trump's personal attorney Rudy Giuliani.

2.    The latest results from a US Census Bureau's survey show that the pandemic is taking an especially hard toll on households with younger adults and those with incomes of 25,000 dollars or less. NPR's XX reports on findings from a new nationwide survey that's trying to measure how the virus is affecting people's lives.

This month the Census Bureau's households post survey gathered answers from more than 83,000 households, many of which have taken hits in their paychecks because of Covid-19. Among them half of adults in homes with a household income of 25,000 dollars or less, say they have either no or slight confidence in being able to pay next month rent or mortgage on time. The Bureau found similar concerns among more than a third of households with member between the age of 25 and 39. The ongoing survey also found that around 40% of households with incomes of 25,000 dollars or less reported that they have not being able to stop worrying for more than half or on every day of a week.


3.    International visitors can now enter Spain without undergoing a mandatory quarantine. The country has reopened its borders today as people are now allowed to circulate freely in all European countries in that area with the exception of Portugal. As XX reports, the govt is hoping to salvage what is left of this summer's tourist season.

Sunday also marks the end of Spain's State of Alarm, lifting movement restrictions within the country. Spanish health authorities claim the nationwide lockdown that begin on March 14th saved almost half a million lives. Still Spain was one of the countries hardest-hit by the cvp with more than 28,000 deaths. As the country opens up again there are worries of a second wave.

5.    Police in Seattle continued to search for those responsible for a shooting this weekend in the city's protest zone that left a 19-y-old man died and another person critically injured. Police say those responsible fled the scene.


6.    Serbians went to the polls today with the ruling Serbian Progressive Party expected to hold on to its majority in parliament. XX reports, many members of the opposition are boycotting the vote over fears that it won't be carried out fairly.

Opinion polls show that conservative party of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic will get well over half the votes though turnout was expected to be lower than usual due to the cv fears. It's the first national election in Europe since the pandemic shutdown most public life. Serbia's largest opposition party sat out the election, saying Vucic has too much control over state media and therefore the vote could not be free and fair. As part of his quest to get his country into the European Union, Vucici will come under increasing pressure to recognize the independence of Serbia's former territory of Kosovo.


7.    In the Netherlands police arrested several protesters, /hundreds, and used a water cannon after a peaceful demonstration attended by thousands at the Hague over cv restrictions turned violent. Authorities say things took a turn after soccer fans and other groups arrived clashing with riot police in the city's central rail station. Mounted police were pelted with rocks and smoke bombs.
