1.    The WH is defending PDT's use of what amounted to as xenophobia slur to describe the cv at a rally this past weekend. NPR's XX reports, T is also facing criticism for suggesting the testing for the virus should be slowed down.

WH press secretary Kaileigh McEnany says PT was simply linking the cv to the country where it was first detected when he pointedly used the phrase "kung flu".

"What the president does do is to point to the fact that the origin of the virus is China. It's a fair thing to point out as China tries to ridiculously rewrite history."

M also argue that T was joking about the media when he said he directed his adm to slow down testing for the cv. PT has repeatedly noted that more testing leads to uncovering more cases. Health experts also said that increase testing along can not explain the rising cases across the country.

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO's director general says the cv just keep spreading.

"It seems that almost every day we reach a new and grim record. Yesterday more than 183,000 new cases of Covid were reported to WHO, easily the most in a single day so far."

The WHO attributes the recent sharp increase to the cvp hitting highly-populated countries in Latin America, South Asia, the Middle East and Africa, all at about the same time.


4.    Sales of existing homes fell sharply last month. It's the third straight monthly decline in sales, indicating further evidence of the effect of the cvp on the broader economy. The National Association of Realtors, the industry's main trade group, says sales of existing homes drop 9.7% in May. It's the slowest pace of buying since the home buying tax credit expired in October of 2010, sales on all parts of the country with the biggest drop in the northeast.

6.    Union employees at the Navy's largest shipbuilder are off the job today, picket lines forming early today in the first strike by production workers at Maine's Bath Iron Work's in two decades. More than 4000 employees are on the strike over a labor dispute focusing on subcontracting work rules and seniority工龄 over wages and benefits, after it has already fallen 6 months behind schedule on construction partly due to the cvp.


7.    The city of Chicago is reeling after more than 100 ppl were shot over the weekend there. As XX of member station WBEZ reports, 13 ppl were killed by the weekend gunfire.

Five of the ppl killed this weekend were under the age of 18. The victims include a 3-y-old boy shot while riding in a car with his father, and a 13-y-old girl killed inside her own home by a stray bullet. Chicago police superintendent David Brown address the violence in a press conference.

"I believe in Chicago. I believe in Chicago, I believe we can achieve above and beyond what we currently think."

Brown took over as Chicago’s top cop 2 month ago and set a goal of fewer than 300 murders for the year. The city has already topped that number.


8.    Yet another private company has reached a deal with NASA to help boost commercial human space flight including to the International Space Station. Virgin Galactic, announced today it hopes to eventually take passengers there. The Space Station is in low earth orbit. SpaceX became the first private company that launched astronauts into orbit last month, ushering to a new era for space travel.
