1.  President Donald Trump and his Democratic rival Joe Biden remain locked in an extremely close race in a number of crucial swing states. NPR's XX reports, election officials are continuing to tally hundreds of thousands of mail in ballots across Pennsylvania, Nevada, Georgia, and North Carolina, two days after the election.
  Biden says he has no doubt that he and his running mate Senator Kamala Harris will win the presidency. He's also urging the nation to be patient as the remaining votes are being counted.
  "I ask everyone to stay calm, all people to stay calm. The process is working. The count is being completed. We'll know very soon."
  Biden continues to lead Trump in number of electoral votes needed to win the presidency, but the race could still go either way. In the meantime, the Trump campaign has filed lawsuits in Pennsylvania and Nevada, citing a lack of transparency at the polls. Similar suits filed the campaign in Georgia and Michigan have been tossed out by state judges.

2.  One of those dismissed lawsuits in Georgia relates to vote counting. From member station WABE in Atlanta XX has details.
  The suit was over 53 absentee ballots in Chatham County, the Georgia Republican Party and the Trump Campaign alleged that the ballots were processed properly. In a live stream hearing Thursday morning a superior court judge threw out the case because he said there's no evidence that the county election department violating the law and no evidence the ballots arrived after the Election Day 7PM deadline.

3.  The final part of the makeup of the Senate will not be known until January. One Georgia Senate seat is officially headed to a runoff while candidates in the state are other Senate race expects the same. Here's NPR's XX.
  Georgia requires a runoff election if no candidate wins more than 50% of the votes. One of the Georgia Senate seats is a special election, that is officially headed to a January 5th runoff. Appointed Republican Senator Kelly Loeffler will face Democrat Raphael Warnock. The other is for a seat held by Republican Senator David Perdue, who's in a close race against Democrat Jon Ossoff. Both are still being counted, but a runoff seams likely. Republicans are on track to hold 50 seats, Democrats 48. That means the two Georgia races could affect who controls the Senate.

4.  Fewer Americans are filing first time jobless claims last week though today's numbers come ahead the far more important numbers due out tomorrow. The Labor Department is announcing today the first time jobless claims last week fell by 7000 with seasonally adjusted 751,000 the week ending October 31st. The October jobs numbers are due out tomorrow.

6.  The Justice Department says it's suing giant payment processing firm VISA over the company's planned acquisition of financial technology startup Plaid. In the suit Justice Department officials say it amounts to a monolithic takeover of the company challenging Visa's payment network. The suit filed in California seeks to block the 5.3 billion dollar acquisition which should be the second largest in Visa's history. That provides /applied rather, provides the infrastructure to allow consumers and business to pay directly from their bank accounts.

7.  The final parts in makeup of the Senate will not be known until January.///

  The sports broadcaster ESPN, rather, says it's cutting about 10% of its work force. That's roughly 500 jobs worldwide. The network says 300 of those jobs will be cut through layoffs. The broadcaster network says the cuts are largely a result of the cv pandemic. The ESPN says it thought to avoid job cuts through furloughs(停薪留职） or budget cuts, but has largely exhausted those avenues.

8.  shell has noticed that it is shutting down some of its refineries. NPR's XX has that story.
  Shell and other European oil and gas companies has vowed to cut its carbon emissions substantially and shifted its business model to prepare for a world power by renewables. The company's refinery in Louisiana didn't fit with that vision. The refinery employs about 637 people turning crude oil into gasoline, diesel and other fuels. Globally Shell is closing and selling more than half of its refineries. It's only keeping facilities that make plastics as well as fuels. The oil company has been hoping the plastic will continue to be in demand even as the world shifts away from fossil fuels.

1.  Pennsylvania is emerging as a crucial stepping stone for Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden. NPR's Windsor Johnston reports, the former Vice President's lead there over President Trump continues to grow as the vote count is tallied into the state's largest Democratic strongholds.
  Biden is in stronger position to win the presidency as results continued to trick a win from the Pittsburgh and Philadelphia regions. Based of the state, the Associated Press is called Pennsylvania's 20 electoral votes would push Biden beyond 270. Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney is urging the city to remain patient as all the ballots are counted.
  "This week the eyes of the nation and world were here in Philadelphia. And I'm proud to say the Philadelphia showed up the mail in ballots and it's in unprecedented conditions..."
  In a statement the Trump campaign without evidence claimed numerous irregularities and accused Pennsylvania election officials of lack of transparency of at the polls.


2.  Top Republican officials in Georgia say they are confident the Secretary of State there would ensure ballots were properly counted. The statement come in a day after President Trump claimed without evidence that election officials are trying to steal the election from him. Only a few thousands votes separate Trump from Democratic challenger Joe Biden virtually ensuring a recount. Speaking today, Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger said the vote count would be accurate.
  "The stakes are high, and the emotions are high on all sides. We will not let those debates distract us from our work. We'll get it right. And we will defend the integrity of our elections."
  Trump has claimed election apparatus机构设备 in Georgia was run by Democrats even though a Republican is at the helm.
  Biden lead Trump in the state by more than 4000 votes.


3.  President Trump says his campaign will pursue all legal avenues to ensure full transparency of the vote count. NPR's Franco Ordonez reports, the President is not giving up in the race.
  The President's campaign has already pursuing multiple legal challenges over alleging fraud and voter disenfranchisement剥夺公民选举权. But the campaign has not provided any systemic evidence. In a statement Trump says we will pursue this process through every aspect of the law to guarantee the American people have confidence in our government. The President argues the fight is no longer about one single election. His statement came as former Vice President Joe Biden took the lead in Pennsylvania, in Georgia. Tuesday where ballots are still being counted, but Trump campaign's lawyer insist "This election is not over."
  The Trump campaign has requested a recount in Wisconsin and Georgia is likely headed for a recount as well.


4.  On Wall Street.... the Dow is down 66 points,  the Nasdaq is up 4 points.



5.  Tropical depression Eta maybe leaving central America, but its path of destruction has left at least 57 people died and countless others missing in homeless. NPR's explains as has moved back into the Caribbean, it's heading toward Cuba and possibly south Florida.
  It will be days before authorities can given accurate assessment at its rage. But widespread flooding and landslides have left dozens died, thousands stranded and tens of thousands homeless from Guatemala to Panama. Guatemalan President Dalahundrus Yamati___ warned that many people remain stranded and it will take time to reach them with many areas accessible only by foot. As many as 50 people died in the massive mudslide, and another 50 were missing in the central Guatemalan town of XXXXX.
  In Honduras video show residents up to their necks in water waiting for help in towns around the northern industrial city of SPSL. Crop damage especially in high altitude to the
rich coffee regions is extensive.


6.  Italy's financial capital Milan looked relatively empty today with luxury boutiques, jewelry shops and other non-essential business all ordered to close as part of a partial lockdown in varies regions of the country in response to the cv pandemic. Restrictions were imposed in 4 Italian regions in an effort to slow the spread of the virus. It's still not as severe as near total lockdown ( that -后面跟的是定语从句)the country was in for ten weeks starting in March. We  believe it echoes those in many parts of Europe.
