Live from NPR news, I'm Janian Herbst.

1.  Thousands of protesters turned out across France today, opposing a draft law aimed at protecting police. The protests were prompted by a video that surfaced this week showing French police officers beating a black man.
  NPR's Alina Birsly has more.
Thousands of people gathered in Paris ....to protest a bill that will criminalize publication of pictures of on-duty police officers with the intent of harming their physical or psychological integrity. But after the damming video demonstrators say the right of journalists and citizens to be able to document such abuse must be protected. "Police Blurred", "Justice Blinded", read one sign. Student William Kaling Backer came out. He's a black.
"The police are supposed to be the guardians of the peace, the first to protect," JXXX says, "now I'm so worry on them."
The Prime Minister announced Friday he appoint a commission to redraft the measure, but calls are increasing for a to be withdrawn entirely.

2.  Colorado's governor Jared Polis says restaurants that defy state health orders could lose their license to operate. XX, from member station KUNC reports, the warning comes after some business signed a letter protesting coronavirus restrictions.
Governor Polis made his comments as many counties have been moved up to "level red", the second highest level of coronavirus restrictions. Restaurants in those counties have been forced to halt indoor dining. In northern Colorado many businesses have signed a letter, stating they will continue operating at full indoor capacity despite the restrictions. The counties involved are concerned that the small businesses won't make it through another shutdown.
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment is now requesting public input for a business best practice certification program for coronavirus safety to help keep business open.

3.  The Department of Agriculture is renewing its efforts to relax school lunch rules, cutting back on the amount of whole greens that schools are required to serve. NPR's XX reports, the Trump administration hopes to finalize the changes before the current president leaves office.
This the second attempt to roll back nutrition standards for school meals that were adopted under president Obama. A federal court blocked the first attempt. The Trump administration wants to cut in half the amount of food rich in whole greens that schools are required to serve. Also allow more low fat instead of none fat milk and eliminate the requirement to reduce sodium levels. Many of these Obama-era requirements already were on hold because of Covid. The Trump administration says some schools had hard time to applying with the rules and many children did like the food. The proposal faces a tight deadline to reach final approval before a new administration arrives.

4.  Tony Hsieh谢家华, a businessman who made his fortune in the heyday of the dot com era before pivoting to be the online shoe company Zappos美捷步品牌鞋 has died. NPR's XX has more.
In the late 90s, venture capitalist, Tony Hsieh knew very little about shoes when he was approached about selling them online. Here's Hsieh discussing the pitch with NPR's "How I Build This".
"To me, it seemed like the poster child of bad Internet ideas. Whos can actually try on shoes without seeing them in person?"
But Hsieh took a chance, and as CEO, helped guids Zappos to become one of the most successful shoes stores on the internet. In 2009 he sold the company to Amazon for 1.2 billion dollars, but stayed on as CEO until this summer. Hsieh died Friday from injuries sustained in a house fire while visiting family. He was 46 years old.

5.  As the pandemic surges around the country, many shoppers hit the stores online on Black Friday, reaching sales to a record this year. Consumers spent an estimated 9 billion dollars online, that's according to Adobe Analytics, which tracks online shopping. That's 22% increase over last year's record of 7.4 billion dollars. Adobe is expecting Monday to result in the biggest online sales day in US history with an estimated 10-12 billion dollars of goods purchased. So far Hot Wheels Samsung TVs and video games are among the hot items people are picking up this year.
