Doctor Anthony Fauci says family gathering should be kept under 10 people through the holiday season especially if people are travelling. Fauci made the remark during an appearance with New York governor Andrew Cuomo. More from NPR’s Brian Mann.   

Cuomo has drawn criticism from some conservatives for implementing an emergency rule restricting private family gatherings in New York to 10 or fewer people, some upstate sheriffs have refused to enforce the rule. But doctor Fauci, head of the national institute of allergy and infectious diseases said most gathering should even be smaller. “10 may even be a bit too much. It’s not only the number but it’s the people who might be coming in from out of the town.” Fauci said he expects corona virus cases to continue surging nationwide into January as holiday gatherings infect more people. Meanwhile Cuomo says he may again ban indoor restaurant dining in New York City, if hospitalizations keep rising. Brian Mann ,NPR news.

President-elect Joe Biden has chosen California attorney Xavier Becerra to be a secretary of Health and Human Services. Biden also choosing Dr. Rochelle Walensky ,chief of Infectious Diseases at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston as he shapes his health team to take on the corona virus pandemic. Biden takes office January20th and last week formally tapped doctor Fauci the nation’s top infectious disease expert to be his chief medical adviser on the virus, more than 283,000 Americans now died from covid -19 ,about 100,000 people in the hospital.

Doses of covid-19 vaccine developed by Pfizer and a German firm BioNTech have arrived in UK. As NPR’s Frank Langfitt from London reports, the hospitals begin immunizations tomorrow.

The largest immunization program in British history kicks off Tuesday. Because the vaccine must be stored at minus 94 degree Fahrenheit, 50 hospitals with a necessary cold storage infrastructure will administer the first doses. Priority will be given to frontline health staff, people over 80 and nursing home workers. Nursing home residents will initially have to travel to hospitals to get their vaccinations because of the ultra cold storage requirements. Pfizer says its vaccine is 95% effective and recipients must get 2 doses 21 days apart. The UK is the first country to approve this vaccine other nations around the world will be watching to see how Britain delivers it and how effective it proves to be. Frank Langfitt ,NPR news London.

As US economy shows signs of slowing, its 2020 winds down, a group of economists believe that situation will change by the second half of next year, National Association for Business Economic in its latest survey said about 3 quarters of its members polled believe the economy will return to its pre pandemic levels by late next year.
A mixed close on Wall Street, the Dow was down 148 points, the NASDAQ up 55 points the S&P fell 7 points today. This is NPR.

Paul Sarbanes a five term former US senator for Maryland has died, he died over the weekend at the age of 87. As from member station WYPR in Baltimore reports the democrat was known as a champion of Chesapeake Bay.

Paul Sarbanes probably was best known for the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, meant to hold executives more accountable. A reaction to Enron and other corporate accounting scandals, but he also authored a bill that required EPA to have a Chesapeake Bay liaison office. Will Baker president of the non- profit Chesapeake Bay foundation, says this was in the early 90s when bay restoration efforts weren’t well coordinated.
“And he wanted to make sure we get classic Soviet’s fashion that everybody was talking to each other and coordinating their activities .“
As a house member Sarbanes drafted first article of impeachment against President Richard.Nixon. For NPR news.

However elderly survivors stayed home because of the health risks posed by the corona virus pandemic. Military streamed today’s ceremony for those unable to attend in person. USS Arizona bell rang out at 7:55 a.m. the minute the attack began December 7th 1941, it was followed by a moment of silence and a military jet fly over a mass marines performing a rightful solute.
Oil closed lower today down 50cents a barrel, to end the session at 4576 a barrel.
