Biden takes the oath of office tomorrow at noon and the ceremony will be unlike that of any president before him, Washington DC is under intense security with 25,000 national guard troop on hand, after a riot at the US capitol earlier this month. President Trump who is accused of helping to incite that riot, leaves Washington in the morning. He will not attend Biden’s inauguration.

Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell meanwhile says Trump played a direct role in provoking the deadly insurrection in the US Capitol, more from NPR’s Windsor Johnston.

McConnell blasted Trump and members of the president’s inner circle for repeatedly spreading false claims that the election was rigged.
“The mob was fed lies. They were provoked by the president and other powerful people. And they tried to use fear and violence to stop a specific proceeding of the first branch of the federal government, which they did not like.”
Thousands of pro-Trump rioters stormed the halls of congress in an effort to prevent lawmakers from certifying the president’s electoral defeat, Trump has been impeached by the House for inciting an insurrection, the case now heads to the Senate for trail. Windsor Johnston NPR news Washington.

As president-elect Biden arrived in Washington, president Trump released a recorded speech today. Trump devolved to the president-elect in an election that he disputed acknowledging the change of administrations.
“This week we had all agreed a new administration and pray for its success in keeping America safe and prosperous. We extend our best wishes and we also want them to have luck, a very important word.”

Trump condemned the January 6th attack by his supporters on the Capitol, saying all the Americans were horrified by the assault on our Capitol. He said such violence can never be tolerated. Trump is skipping the inauguration day and slated to leave Washington for Florida after a departure ceremony at Joint Base Andrews early tomorrow.

Former Liberian president Nobel peace prize winner Ellen Johnson Sirleaf said she’s “discouraged and disappointed” at little aid in getting covid-19 vaccines to Africa. NPR’s has that story.

Sirleaf is now co-chair of an independent advisory panel set up by the World’s Heath Organization to review what’s gone wrong with the corona virus response, and how to apply those lessons in the future pandemics. In a presentation to WHO’s executive board, Sirleaf said one of the key takeaways is how unequally vaccines are being distributed. She said because wealthy countries are outbidding poorer ones, the rich countries are in track to vaccinate 100% of their populations before poor countries can get vaccines to more than 20%. And in Africa vaccines likely won’t be widely available until next year, possibly even 2023, Sirleaf added that’s not just unfair, it’s against everyone’s interest, saying “no one is safe until everyone is safe.” NPR news.

What amounts to a major change in the standardized test taken by many college applicants the college board now says it will remove the optional essay from the SAT, it will also do away with subject tests. The college board says corona virus pandemic has highlighted the importance of being innovative and adoptive going forward. The pandemic has forced wide spread cancellation of group testing sessions for both the SAT and the rival ACT, because of that some colleges have eliminated testing requirements entirely for the current admission cycle.

Crude oil future’s prices closed higher today oil rose 62 cents a barrel to end the session at 52.98 a barrel in New York.
