What was once crops is now a lake. What were once homes are now uninhabitable as these rural houses in northern India are submerged in flood water. The flooding in Uttar Pradesh has its roots miles away in Nepal where heavy rains have fallen and ultimately arrived here in the local river. What has angered villagers is that embankments built to stop this sort of flooding have completely failed. Many have been partially washed away as soon as water began to rise. They fear the situation could become critical.

Almost 50 villages would be flooded if the embankments are completely broken.

For now locals have to survive the best they can seeking out bits of dry land to exist on as they wait for the waters to subside.
