it is about two people living in new england.They seem like the hard rock maple trees often found in that area. nothing can make them move. today story was written by .here is only with our story.

old man calvin worked in a hilt mail not far from his house. kavin's wife had died many years before . now he lived with his son everett. father and son were happy living together in their old family house. they liked eating together and talking about what had happened during the day. after eating, they would sit in the living room and read. their life together was warm and pleasant.but one night after summer, calvin and everett said shock things to each other. and everett quickly walked out of the room. he said no more to his father that night. next moring the old man aworked early and cooked his breakfast himself usually he would cook for his son too. but this moring the father went to work without even talking to his son.everett got out of bed when he heard the door closed. he made his own brearfast for the first time in many years. he was still angry with his father. the old man came home after a long day of work got the milk. everett returned from home two hours later. neither man talked to the other.they were still angry. and this night they did not ever eat together. many days and nights passed in the same way. father and son didn't talk or even look at each other. they still lived under the same room but they acturly like two strangers. after eating, calvin sat in his chair and read newspaper. edver sat cross the room in the other chair reading a book. sometimes while reading,evder stopped reading and slowly look up his father. he wondered what kind of peason his father really was. he knew he was a good worker and he was honest.but his father did not seem friendly with anyone.
he seemed to have no emotions.edvin could not remeber his father kiss his mather. the son wondered what kind of man is he really. many more days and nights passed with father and son saying nothing to each other. days became months. but the heavy silense between the two men continued. they still lived in the same old house,but they did not talk. one sunday morning, edvin looked out of window. and saw the ground was covered with snow.someone would have to clean the snow of the side waik either him or his father. if edvin offered clean the side work. his father mightly he was trying to be friendly.he did not want his father to think so. he was still angry with him. but if edver did not do the work. his father might think he was been to cool.edvin did not want him to think that either. while he was deciding what to do,edvin heard an noise outside. he looked out of window again. he saw his father cleaning the snow of the side walk. the old man had been one step ahead of his son .the father had made the decision.more weeks passed. and father and son still did not talk to each other. then one day, edvin saw his chair in the living room was getting old. the seat was broken.he need to be fixed. edven remebered that chair is an old wood chair had been in this house for many years.it had been there even before edvin was born.it was still a good chair,he thought to himself,"i will not slow the way,i will have it fixed". edvin called his friend allvin on the telephone. told him a story about fix the old tables and chairs. edver asked him please to come to the house to look at his old broken chair. the old man was home when allvin came to the house. "hello, elfied,i v not seen you for years, not seen you are a little boy",edven was in the kitchen when the two men were talking, he was surprised to hear his father's vioce.he had not heard kavin talk for almost five years. edvin thought for himself,"so my father will talk to other people",this made him angrier. "i will never talk to him now",edvin said.
eight more years passed. kavin, the father,and edvin,the son, still had nothing to say to each other. the day send nights was still the same. the two men ate alone and they sat in the living room and read. kavin was getting very old. one day he stopped working. then he was home old time. one night edvin looked his father for the first time in weeks. father looked tired and lonely. the old man's hair had become completely white just like snow. the son felt sorry for his father.he saild to himself,"we are together even though we are not talk,i am lucky to have someone here with me.it would be terriblely lonely without him." and then another winter came. the cold wind blow. and the ground again was covered with snow. inside the old house, father lay seek. he was very old now. and he did not seem he would live much longer. edvin drove his father to the hospital in town. a young doctor took him to the pride room. edvin waited outside in the hole. a few minutes later, the doctor came out and said,"you can see your father now".the doctor and edvin walked into kavin's room. the son went him and saw the old man asleep. kavin looked very tired. edvin sat down the chair next to the bed. and waited. after a time, kavin moved a little, but he did not open his eyes. edvin wondered if he would ever see his father's eyes again.then the doctor came back. he told edvin that he knew that he and his father had said nothing to each other for twenty years. "that is our personal bussiness".edvin said. then the doctor told him how seek his father was. "he might die soon",said doctor,"you should talk to him now,it would be your last chance." suddenly the old man opened his eyes, he looked around the room.he looked at the young doctor and he looked at his son. he smiled weakly and edvin smiled back the seek old man. kavin opened his mouth and try to talk.edvin quickly put his hand over his father' mouse. he did not want to hear kavin's ways even though this was the last chance. the old man did not try to talk anymore. his eyes closed again. and he was asleep for a long time. the doctor said"he will not wake again.he is dead."edvin moved from his chair and got his hand coat.he walked to the door and tured to the bed.he wanted to look at his father for the last time. the doctor said with anger"he wanted to say something to you befoe he died. why did you stop him".edvin answered,"it was my father who first made the decision.and he should not talk.he was the person who had nothing to say to each other. i did not want to hear him to say he was sorry.and i did not ever think he was wrong." then edvin walkde out the hospital.he drove home very slowly.when he entered the old quiet house, everything seemed strange. he said to himself"this will be a lonely house now".

One Sunday moring,E looked out of the window and saw that the grand was covered with snow.Someone would have to clean the snow of the sidewalk,even him or his father.If E offered to clean the sidewalk, his father might think he would trying to be friendly.He did not want his father to think so,he was still angry with him.But if every did not do the work,his father might think that he was be in to poor.E did not want him to think that either.When he was deciding what to do,E heard the noise of outside.He looked out of the window again,he saw his father cleaning the snow of the sidewalk.The old man had been one step by had door his son.Father had made decision.More weeks past and father and son still did not talk to each other.Then one day,E saw that his chair running the living room was getting old,the was opened.It need to be fixed.E remembered that this old chair had been in the house for many years.It had been there ,even before E was born.

"It is still a good chair because of himself,I will not throw it away.I would be happy with fix."

E called his friend Ele on the telephone.Ele worked in a store where he fixed old tables and chairs.E asked him please to come to the house to look at his old broken chair.The old man was at home when Ele came to the house.

"Hello,Ele.I have not seen you for years,not seen you since you are a little boy."

E was in the kichen while the two man were talking.He was suprised to hear his father's voice.He had not heard K talk for almost five years.

E thought himself,"So my father will talk to other people ."

This made him argrier.

"I will never talk to him now."E thought.

Eight more years passed,K the father and E the son still had nothing to say to each other.The days and the nights were still the same,the two man ate alone than they sat in the living room and read.K was getting very old.

One day,he stopped working,then he was at home all the time.One night,E looked at his father for the first time in weeks,father looked tied and lonely.The old man's hair had became completely white just like the snow.The son felt sorry for his father.

He said to himself,"We are together even though we do not talk.I am luck to have someone hear with me.It would be terriblly lonely without him."

And then another winter came,the cold rain blow and the grand was again covered with snow.Inside the old house,father lay sick.He was very old now and he did not seem he would live much longer.

E drove his father to the hospotal in town.A young doctor took him to work .E waited outside in the hall.A few minutes later,the doctor came out and said,"You can see your father now."

The doctor and E walked into the K'room.The sun went the old man asleep.K looked very died.E sat down in the chair next to the bed and waited.

After a time,K moved a little,but he did not opened his eyes.E woudered if he would never see his father's eyes.Then the doctor came back,he told E that he knew that he and his father had said nothing to each other for twenty years.

"That is our personal business."E said.Then the doctor talked him how sickness his father was.

"He might die soon."said the doctor,"You should talk to him now.It will be your last chance."

Suddenly,the old man opened his eyes.He looked around the room.He looked at the young doctor and he looked at his son.He smiled weakly at E and E smiled back at the sick old man.Then K opened his mouth and tied to talk.E quickly put his hand over his father's mouth,he did not want to hear K'voice even though this was the last chance.
