提高英语听力能力 找对方法很重要!
Homework

In 1796 or 97, Beethoven has suffered a serious illness, possibly meningitis.

"My ears continue to hum and buzz day and night" he wrote. "I can hear sounds, its, true but cannot make out the words."

He first notices that his hearing was going when he was around 28 years of age. At the height of his early fame, producing great works, suddenly he knew his hearing was beginning to go. But doctors say don't worry it, it bit of wax. It will be all right. But he kept getting worse and it lasted, in fact, and he was not fully deaf, stone deaf that he would call it until his final years.

When we were little children we hear that Beethoven was deaf. So we fell that fact way early on and then we forget about it. And then we forget what does means to be deaf. Every now and then I think we need to reacquire ourselves with that fact and rethink about it and re-read the Heiligenstadter Testament.

The Heiligenstadter Testament is document was written in 1802 after the month of suicidal despair. It name comes from the village where was written. Beethoven has gone there for the summer to rest his ears.

Oh, you man who think or say I'm out of style, peevish or misanthropic, how greatly you are wrong. Was impossible for me to say to people speak louder shout for I am death. How I possibly admit weakness of one sense which will be more perfect to me than another's, as sense which I once possessed in the greatest perfection. I would end my life, only my art held me back. It seemed to be impossible to leave the world until I produce all that I felt was in me.

Careful dating the sketches has involved revealing because his first work he wrote after the Heiligenstadter testament was this oratorio Chris on the Mount of Olives. It's very strange work, in that he doesn't deal with the whole Chris’s passion story like most passion like Bach's passion. He deals with just the aspect to suffering loneliness and isolation of Chris as his about to be crucified the night before his crucifixion. And how Chris is get to overcome all this and saved the world. And this is very much like Beethoven feeling his own isolation. And the other work, he wrote straight after the Heiligenstadter Testament was the Eroica symphony

Maybe, I'm better than I give myself credit for.
