European Union's ministers are to meet today to determine how to react to Kosovo’s declaration of independence yesterday and the UN Security Council plans to meet again. A number of countries in Europe are uneasy about Kosovo's newly declared independence among them is Spain which says it will not recognize their move. Jerome Socolovsky has more. Many Spanians genuinely believe that their county is a step away from the slippery slope of disintegration. They say the former Solavia as the nightmare scenario. Deputy Prime Minister Maria Teresa Fernández de la Vega already made it clear on Friday that Spain does not support Kosovo's declaration of independence. One commentator is calling it a Pandarus Box. But in the bask region, the self-ruled government is welcoming the declaration. A spokeswoman says Kosovo offers a lesson on how to resolve separatist conflicts peacefully. Since the 1970s, the Bask group has killed 800 in its fight for independence. The Spainish government has rejected the regional government's proposal for referendum on self determination. A suicide car bomb targetting a Canadian convoy in southern Afghanistan has killed at least eight Afghan civilians. This attack comes a day after the deadliest suicide bomb attack in Afghanistan since the Taliban was tumbled to in 2001. The death toll in that attack has now surpassed 100.

President Bush continues his visit to Tanzania today. He held it out entire malaria bat nets in the north part of the country, saying the US is behind efforts to eradicate the disease. Secretary of States Condoleezza Rice has arrived in Keyan today to back mediation efforts to end the political crisis there and violence that has claimed more than a thousand lives. Rice wants Keyan's President and the opposition to share power. This follows December's dispute Presidential vote which the oppostion claimed was rigged. NPR's Ofeibea Quist-Arcton reports from Nairobi. Washington's considerable diplomatic wait to try to end the political deadlock in Keyan has been welcomed by the mediator Coffi Annan. Pressures from Secratary of State Condoleezza Rice should help the Former UN chief who is trying to get Keyan's rival politicians to agree a power sharing deal and grant coalition government favored by President Bush. However, Keyan's Foreign Minister Moses Wetangula warned that his country would not accept any agreement imposed from the outside.It should ...that we have a country, we have constitution, we have laws, whatever agreement we reach must not be illegal, must not be unconstitutional, and mustn't be dangerous to the people of Keyan. Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama met with former Democratic rival John Edwad in North Carolina yesterday. Obama and fellow candidate Hilary Clinton has been seeking an endorsement from Edwads. Wisconsin holds Democratic and Republican primaries tomorrow and Hawaii hold its democratic caucus. John of Wisconsin public radio reports. Obama's compaign says a winter storm in Wisconsin force the cancellation of Green bay and the unoiled democrat want to meet Edward. Obama says the two talk about issues llike reducing property and helping working and middle class Americans. So this was a wide ranging conversation. There wasn't any clear objectives, obviously I love John Edward would support ,but I said,the day after he dropped out. This was really the chance for us to share idea. Obama says if he is the nominee, he will look at John Edward as a possible running mate and eventually for other posts. Senate Hillary Clinton remain in Wisconsin and will compaign here today while Obama splits his time between Wisconsin and Ohio. For NPR News I am in Milwaukee .

Republican presidential hopeful John McCain is widely expected to pick up endorsement from former President George W Bush today. McCain is to meet with Mr. Bush in Taxes and hold the rally tomorrow. Meanwhile McCain’s lone remaining rival for the Republican nomination former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee said again yesterday he is in the campaign to stay and all the way to the party convention if necessary. Wisconsin holds its Republican and Democratic primaries tomorrow.

US stock markets are closed for President's Day today. In Europe, stock prices rose in earlier trading.
