I'm Bill Thompson from the VOA News Center in Washington.

Turkey's prime minister says his country's military incursion into northern Iraq is aimed at protecting the Turkish people, and that the forces will withdraw once they have achieved the goal of destroying logistical and psychological support for Kurdish rebels. Turkey says the Kurdistan Workers Party or PKK has been using bases in Iraqi Kurdistan to launch attacks into Trukey. And the government says Iraqi authorities are not doing enough to stop them. But Falah Mustafa Bakir, head of foreign relations for the largely autonomous Kurdistan Regional Government, disagrees with that.

"We have tightened the control at the checkpoints, at the airports, at the hospitals, supply routes. So all of these measures have been taken by the KRG in order to show our goodwill to the Turkish side that we are not part of the problem and our people should not pay a price for a problem that they have nothing to do with, because PKK issue is an internal Turkish issue."

Meanwhile in Baghdad there were no immediate reports of casualties or damage after series of rockets or mortars hit the Iraqi capital's heavily fortified Green Zone early today. The ten-square-kilometer complex is home to the US embassy and Iraqi government headquarters.

US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice says there is a strong case to be made for new United Nations' sanctions against Iran, which she says continues to enrich uranium and has not answered questions about its past nuclear activities. Meanwhile Secretary of State Rice leaves Washington today on a mission to South Korea, China and Japan. North Korea's nuclear disarmament is expected to dominate discussions during her trip.

Pakistan's opposition parties are planning their next move in the formation of a new government including selecting a new Prime Minister and weighing the fate of President Pervez Musharraf. Leaders of both the Pakistan People's Party and the Pakistan Muslim League-N Party say PPP Vice President Makhdoom Amin Fahim has emerged to the top candidate for prime minster.

The United States Air Force is trying to find out more about the first ever crash of one of its B-2 Stealth Bombers. VOA's Kurt Achin has more from Seoul.

The crash occurred Saturday morning local time when the B-2 Stealth bomber was taking off from Andersen Air Force Base on Guam, a US territory that lies south of Japan. US Technical Sergeant Tom Czerwinski, of the US Pacific Air Force Public Affairs Office in Hawaii, says no lives were lost. "The cause of crash is unknown, pending an investigation. The pilots had ejected safely - no serious injuries. One is mobile, one is still in the hospital under observation." A board of investigators is being assembled to evaluate the incident. US officials speculate some preliminary information may be available within 30 days. This is the frist crash of a B-2, a $1.2 billion aircraft which uses highly advanced materials and technology to evade radar. It was frist deployed in combat in the 1990s Balkan conflict, and later in US-led actions in Afghanistan and Iraq. Kurt Achin, VOA News, Seoul.

Seven security guards working for a road construction company were killed in a roadside bombing in eastern Afghanistan today. It is not yet clear who is behind the attack.

The United Nations World Food Program says increasing banditry in Sudan's Darfur region is endangering its ability to feed up to three million people there, that story from Lisa Schlein reporting from Geneva.

Fighting between Sudanese-backed militia and rebel groups continue to kill and displace many people in Darfur. The insecurity generated from the ongoing conflict continues to hamper the delivery of humanitarian assistance. But the World Food Program says it is the rising banditry in the region that most threatens its ability to distribute food to millions of homeless people in Darfur. WFP spokeswoman, Christiane Berthiaume, tells VOA 26 trucks have been stolen and 15 drivers abducted since the beginning of the year. "Every week, we have to face these kinds of events where the trucks are stopped by people, bandits, armed people who ask for money - take the trucks, takes all, sometimes also the drivers." Berthiaume says the World Food Program may have to resort to airdrops if road transport becomes impossible. Lisa Schlein for VOA News, Geneva.

And negotiators in the political crisis in Kenya are taking a break before resuming their talks on Monday.

United Nations World Food Programme says increasing banditry in Sudan's Darfur region is endangering its ability to feed up to 3 million people there. That story from Lisa Schlein reporting from Geneva.

Fighting between Sudanese-back militia and rebel groups continue to kill and displace many people in Darfur. The insecurity generated from the ongoing conflict continues to hamper the delivery of humanitarian assistance. But the World Food Programme says it is the rising banditry in the region that most threatens its ability to distribute food to millions of homeless people in Darfur. WFP spokeswoman Christiane Berthiaume tells VOA 26 trucks have been stolen and 15 drivers abducted since the beginning of the year. "Everyweek we have to face these kinds of events where the trucks are stopped by people, bandits, armed people who ask for money - take the trucks, takes all, sometimes also the drivers. Berthiaume says the World Food Programme may have to resort to air drops if road transport becomes impossible. Lisa Schlein for VOA News, Geneva.
