Good evening, and welcome to the six o'clock news .Prince Harry has on the front line fighting in Afghanistan for 10 weeks, British media had agreed to keep this deployment secret for his safety and that of his comrades ,but the deal broke down after an American based website ran the story ,the prince the third in line to the thrown has been on active service in some of the most dangerous parts of Afghanistan , he said he was proud to be serving his country. Under /the/ deal with the Ministry of Defense Nick Rachael was allowed to film Prince Harry in action.

it's the deployment Harry had been hoping for to join British forces on active service, but which he was denied last year when his unit was sent to Iraq without him, but after careful discussion ,which included meetings ,between defense chiefs and the queen ,he was sent to Afghanistan shortly before Christmas .The BBC together with other British organizations agreed not to report the deployment to safeguard his security and that of British forces with him.

Harry has been based in the southern part of Hillment Province ,in the former Taliban madrassas, which has been turned by the British into a forward operating base .A small military fortress close to an area with a Talibaner active. It's allowed Harry to realize his ambition and to experience life close to the front line.

"all my wishes have come true , I was always hoping to get forward,um, the Commanding Officer was very sort of cool about it ,and said Commanding Officer 'yes, .... I want you to go' and obviously Mark the OC down here was willing to take that responsibility and I got here on Christmas eve"

"* six roger ,a five a time's air and before *"

Harry's been with a * regiment to be coming under attack from the Taliban on a daily basis.

The British positions are easy targets, but in this landscape the Taliban are very much harder to spot ,let alone to engage .

"pop on the right , en, it still go? yeah, you should / go on sir "

"all of the time the guys are engaging sort of invisible fire points because the Taliban are very good at hiding in their trenches and they put that up and said. and then if you know, if the guys are coming under a lot of fire then I call the air in and as soon as the air comes up they disappear and just jumped down these holes or go into their bunkers "

Harry's specific role is that of a tactical air controller or a J teck, calling up aircraft on bombing missions and support of ground forces, much of the work is done from inside 45 positions , Handle over all of the video screens showing images of possible targets and in touch with ally pilots by radio.

"Yeah, roger have you about to confirm you're not going back with your going back."
---

But as a tactical air controller ,Harry also goes out on foot patrol ,"that’s when you are on the ground carrying all the kit and then you come under contact. You’ll type in the password. If your computer is not on the ready, flip it open, get on the radio, get the jets in. And the, yeah yes. you almost become like a bit of an air traffic controller. You've got jets flying all over the place.

Harry admitted that the decision last year not to send him to Iraq caused him to reconsider whether or not /an/ army career was feasible, now he appears to be more settled.

"it's very nice to be sort of a normal person ,for once I think it's about no one's ever gonna get ,where is *,you know ,they are just so friendly ,looking after me ,and obviously they were fully aware what is..what the situation is and always keeping an eye for me ,and then everyone else just gets on with their daily life is a bigger things going on in the world and going on outside there in the front line ,rather than ,you know ,worrying about 'Oh look, look who's here'.”

And Harry says he is not missing life back at home.

"Alright I'm missing the most… /I/ should full about it before it starts. Em I don’t' know. She.um.. nothing really. Em it's bizarre. I'm out here now. I haven’t really had a shower for four days. I haven’t washed my clothes for a week and never they seem completely normal. Er so, yeah I don't know, honestly know what I miss at all. You know, Music. We've got music. We've got light, we’ve got food. We've got drink. No, I don't miss booze if that is the next question. It's very nice just to be here. And I'll be with all the guys. And just mucking in as one of the lads."

For the solider prince ,who prides his deployment with showing signs of frustration not being allowed near a front line ,this trip maybe something of a turning point :

"I think ,now ,it think it has proved the point that if it is done the right way and kept quite in certain areas and then it can't be done and as far as I'm concerned I'm out here as a normal JTAC on the ground, not Prince Harry. "

For his family, like the families of all those servicemen and women in Afghanistan and Iraq it will be a time of some anxiety until he returns [ 本帖最后由 goanna 于 2008-3-1 23:32 编辑 ]
