Doctors say Senator Edward Kennedy did not suffer a stroke and it's not in immediately danger after having what they described as a seizure. The veteran Democrat was airlifted to a Boston hospital from an emergency room near his family compound in Cape Cod Massachusetts yesterday. Doctors say he’s resting comfortably and scheduled to undergo more tests.

 

近来多次碰到这个compuond，词典查不到，请LULU指教。

 

看了昨天LULU在NPR的点评，感受是8个字:“望洋兴叹，奋起直追”。

谢谢！前些天美国“一夫多妻”和普京在度假地会见布什的新闻中都有这个字，我怎么也想不到“大院”、“庄园”上去。双语词典也看不到这样的解释。是不是这个字与中文很难对应啊？

经常听到Hamas,Taliban,West Bengal,West Bank,Hazbollah等等一些词，不太明白之间的关系，，请教下哦。

第一次没有听出来；第二次听到，因时间间隔很短，似曾相识，觉得是“特遣部队”，再查词典，原来是“特别工作组”。

 

又：20080521NPRNRWS中：

 

Murat Kurnaz的一段话：" There was a bucket of water, and they stick my head into the water and, in the same time, they punched me into my stomach, so I had to inhale all those water. "

 

这个德国出生的土耳其人英语说得不错。但听惯了播音员的，听同期声就费劲。这个punch，我反复听，识别前边是清辅音还是浊辅音，有没有爆破，用“音标查字法”，查到bounce, pounce，都有“袭击”的意思，似是而非。看到整理稿，才认识了这个punch：To hit with a sharp blow of the fist. 用拳头猛击。

 

听力就是这样点点滴滴提高的吧？但愿不要被同一块石头绊倒第二回。与普友共勉。

A four-dollar gas has already enrolled in several cities across the country. （cnn 5.24）这里enrolled觉得不make sense俄，可是又查又听得还是没结果，help~ 还有今日的anchor是发音习惯还是什么，on tap 硬是被她发得像on the tap?还是确实有此用法？help~

请问下 1.如果A是头稿，B是在A的基础上改的，C又是homework,那我作为D是改B的稿呢还是C的稿？

           （改B的，接下去都是在上一位修改的基础上继续改，homework不改。）

 

          2.假如是改B的，那么B已经改成的红色部分要把它变成黑色还是保留红色？

            （把B的全部变成黑色，在B的基础上把你改动的地方标红）

 

          3.为什么我改稿子发帖了还是没有听力指数？

            （没改错的话一般都会有听力指数，但是版主的评分不一定都是当天，有可能滞后一些，请耐心等待~）

我回你的贴。刚刚看到你在今日NPR的homework，奇怪的是，你标红的地方，人家都没有错，而唯一的一处，即200805526NPRNEWS的第二段：

这个as是你改的，你却没有标红。有点匪夷所思。新手上路，也难免。研究研究听写规则吧。其实我也犯规。比如我今天在线修改人家的听写稿，意识到后赶紧停下来了。“阶梯修改规则”大家都应当遵守。

 

我也是刚刚来NPR栏目两个月。原来听special English,总觉得播音员读得慢，而在这里却不太适应，总觉得播音员读得太快。但这就是人家的正常语速，慢慢摩耳朵吧。我觉得这两个月收获很明显。对于我来说，词汇量不是大问题，多数是听不出来，看了整理稿才恍然大悟。障碍在小词、习语和不熟悉的人名、地名上。但学英语也是学文化，还得老老实实地去Google。

 

好在这个栏目的斑竹很勤奋，一般当天就能见到几近完美的“整理稿”。还有LULU的画龙点睛式的点评，解疑释惑，水平高，你花钱都找不到这么好的老师。

 

在这里坚持吧，说心里话，其它英语学习网站找不到这么好的栏目。

 

至于你的问题：Hamas, Taliban, West Bengal, West Bank, Hazbollah不就是地区和组织的名称吗？你到底想问什么呢？

今天的原油期货价格以骤跌收盘。基准原油近月合同每桶降3.34美元，以每桶128.85美元报收。

 

near-month contract 近月合同、近月契约

 

By the way,昨天还有一个地方出了contractor这个字：

这个security contractors就是指的黑水安全承包商了。

应该是has already been normal in......

 

anchor是连读的缘故吧

 

用on (the) tap表示吧

我来补充

 

~near month contract是一个贸易术语，考量石油市场大部分的交易活动就是针对近月契约(near month contract)而产生， 亦即到期近月份的石油交易资料，然后定下交易价格、签新的合同，这相对于远月份（也常常出现的，与near month contract）的交易资料更具有代表性。所以经常在关于oil 的新闻里提到这个terminology。

 

 

参考译文：

在纽约证券交易所，本月的石油近月契约收在每桶 128. 85 美元，较上月每桶骤降3.34 美元。
