It is 1530 Universal time. I’m Steve Ember in Washington.

Governments around the world are offering to help the Burma deal with the effects of the deadly cyclone Saturday. The United States, China, and the European Union have all promised money and emergency supplies. India had sent two navy ships with food, medicine and other supplies. The first airplane carrying foreign aid arrived in Yangon Tuesday from Thailand. Burmese officials now say the cyclone killed more than 22,000 people. About 41,000 people are reported missing. That number is expected to rise. The storm left hundreds of thousands of people without shelter. Many people are without food and drinking water.

 

2. Chinese President Hu Jintao has arrived in Japan for a five-day good-will visit. It is the first trip by a Chinese President to the country in ten years. Before leaving Beijing, Mr. Hu said he look forward to a friendly atmosphere during his visit. He also said he believes the two nations can settle a dispute of a oil drailing right in the East China Sea. Mr. Hu and Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda  are expected to discuss climate change, economic corporation and other issues.

 

3.The Tibetan governers of exile said that recent talks between its representatives and Chinese officials were a good first step. One of the Tibetan representatives Lodi Gari described the talk as honest. He also confirmed that a second set of meeting would be held, but he did not say when or where the meetings would take place. Chinese Foreign Ministry Qin Yang said the talks were only a beginning. He also blamed the Dalai Lama for the recent unrest in Tibet. The Tibetan spiritual leader has denied the claim.

 

4.A suicide bomb attack in Pakistan has killed at least three people. Police official said a man on a bicycle exploded his bomb after being stopped by police at the security position in the Northwestern town of Barno. A policeman was among the dead. The attack is the second since Pakistan’s new coalition government began talks with the militants left by ***. He is accused pledging the murder of former Prime Minister Baneci Apotol. Batulan Masu has been linked to the Taliban and Al- Qaeda. He declared seized fire during the talks. He has since said no peace agreement is possible until Pakistani troops withdraw from Tribal areas near the Afghan border.

 

5.Russian and United States officials have signed a **** nuclear agreement. American ambassador William Burns and Russian’s top nuclear official signed the agreement Tuesday in Moscow. The signing came on the last date of the term of the Russian President Vladimir Putin. The agreement will permit business from Russian and the United States to expend the nuclear trade between their countries. Both the United States Congress and the Russian Parliament must approve the agreement. Nuclear Corporation between the two countries had slowed in recent years because of disagreement over Iran’s nuclear program.
