 [1] China says it has successfully reduced water levels in a lake created by the big earthquake last month in Sichuan Province. The Xinhua News Agency says the province's top officials made the anouncement after waters began flowing from Tanjiashan Lake. The report said half of the water in the lake has been removed. Efforts to reduce water levels began on Saturday. Chinese troops used anti-tank weapons to explode rocks surrounding the lake. About 250,000 people were ordered to leave the area. More than one million others were threatened by flooding if the lake burst.
 [2] An American diplomat has arrived in North Korea. The America Embassy in South Korea says Sung Kim crossed at the border village of Panmunjom. This visit is aim that speaking effort by  North Korea disable its nuclear centers. Mr.Kim is the state department's top Korean expert. He is to return to South Korea on Wenesday before returning to Washington.
 [3] Protesters gathered in South Korea's capital Tuesday in the biggest demonstration yet against the government. The protesters are angry about the government's desicion to suspend a ban on beef imports from the United States. Reports say as many as hundreds of thousands of  people took part in the demonstration. Tens of thousands of riot police and soldiers were deployed to control the crowd. Large shaping containers are being used to block streets around the official home of South Korea's President. Earlier Tuesday, a government spokesman said prime minister Hang Song-su and his cabnit offer to resign during a weekly cabnit meeting. It is not clear if South Korean president Lee Ming-bak accepted the resignations.
  [4] President Bush says Iran faces international action if it does not halt its uranium enrichment program. The president spoke in Slovenia at its final meeting with European Union leaders. He warned of the dangers the world would face if Iran develops nuclear weapons. Mr.Bush said now it is the time for all nations to work together to stop Iran's nuclear program. Mr.Bush thanked European Union countries for their support in Iraq and Afghanistan.
  [5] The rising cost of oil imports pushed America's trade deposit for April to its highest level in more than a year. The / Department says the difference between American exports and imports was nearly 61 billion dollars for the month. That is nearly 8 percent more than the trade deposit for March. Late Monday, American Central Bank Chairman Ben / said the threat of inflaction is growing. He also said the threat of a slowing economy remians but is easing. Investers consider his comments as a sign the federal reserve has indeed a long series of interest reed counts.
