China says it had successfully reduced water level in a lake created by the big earthquake last month in Sichuan province. The XinHua news agency says the province's top official may be announcement after water began flowing from Tanjiashan Lake. The reports said half water in the lake has been moved. Efforts to reduce water levels began on Saturday. Chinese troops use anti-tank weapons to explode rocks surrounding the lake. About 250 thousand people were ordered to leave the area. More than 1 million others were threaten by flooding if the lake burst.

 

An American diplomat has arrived in North Korea. The American embassy in South Korea says Song Kim crossed at the border village Panmunjom. His visit is aimed at speeding up efforts by North Korea to disable its nuclear centres. Mr. Kim is the state department top Korean experts. He is to return to South Korea on Wednesday before returning to Washington.

 

Protestors gathered in South Korea's Capital Tuesday in a biggest demonstration yet against the government. The protestors are angry about the government's decision to suspend a ban on beef imports from the United States. Reports say as many as hundreds of thousands of people took part in the demonstration. Tens of thousands of riot police and soldiers were deployed to control the crowd. Large shipping containers are being used to block streets around the official home of South Korea's President. Earlier Tuesday a government's spokesman said Prime Minister Han Seung-soo and his cabinet offer to resign during a weekly cabinet meeting. It is not clear if South Korea President Lee Myung Bak accepted the resignations.

 

President Bush says Iran faces international action if it does not hold its uranium enrichment program. The president spoke in Slovenia at this final meeting with European Union leaders. He warned of the dangers the world will face if Iran develops nuclear weapons. Mr. Bush said now is the time for all nations to work together to stop Iran's nuclear program. Mr. Bush thanked the European Union countries for their support in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The rising cost of oil imports push the America's trade deficit for April to its highest level in more than a year. The Commerce Department says the difference between American exports and imports was nearly 61 billion dollars for the month. That is nearly 8 percent more than the trade deficit for March. Late Monday American central bank Chairman Ben Bernanke said the threat of inflation is growing. He also said the threat of slowing economy remains but is ease. Investors consider his comments as a sign the Federal Reserve has ended a long series of interests rate cuts.
