GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin is standing by her claim that Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama, in her words, "pals around with terrorists". Palin says Obama's association with Bill Ayers in 1960s era radical who's now a college professor isn't an issue that is fair to discuss. And McCain supporter Senator Joe Lieberman agrees. "If the shoe was on the other foot, and John McCain had one of earliest campaign events at the home, of somebody who affirm the right wing group that had bombed buildings, and then had been on aboard with the guy for several years. You bet the Obama campaign would have been raising that question." Liberman was on FOX News Sunday.

Obama today dismissed Palin's comment in similar criticism from the McCain campaign. "Senator McCain and his operates are gambling. That they can distract you with smears rather than talk to you about substance. They'd rather tear our campaign down than lift this country up." Obama is speaking in a rally in National North Carolina. Obama has denounced the radical abuse of actions of Ayers who was the founder of the Weather Underground group during Vietnam War. Obama was a child at that time.

Israel's Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni today said she will keep pursuing a peace deal with Palestinian if she succeeds in forming a new coalition government. Linda Gradstein has the story from Jerusalem.

It is Livni's first foreign policy address since she was nominated to form Israel's next government. That came after Prime Minister Ehud Olmert resigned in the wake of a series of corruption allegations although he remains in power until Livni either forms a new government or elections are held. Livni said Israel must now allow days of political changes to stand in the way of negotiations referring to the upcoming American elections. Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad Al Malki who also spoke at the policy conference in Jerusalem said Palestinian see the next few months as a time of uncertainty. He said they are waiting to see the results of the American elections and that the two candidates have different policies. He also said he hopes Livni is able to form a government as that would show commitment to the negotiations for Palestinian State. From NPR news, I am Linda Gradstein in Jerusalem.

A new medical research report has concluded that men who are overweight or who have high insulin levels are more likely to die if they get prostate cancer. The finding comes from a large study of physician in the US. NPR’s Richard Knox reports.

The Harvard-based physician's health study has followed 22000 doctors for 26 years. The new study looked at the fate of more than 2500 participants with prostate cancer is published in the journal called the Lancet on college. Men who are overweight at the time of their prostate cancer diagnosis were 47% more likely to die of the disease. Obese men are nearly 3 times more likely to die.  Men with high insulin levels also have much higher prostate cancer mortality. Worst of all, men were four times more likely to die of prostate cancer if they were both overweight and had high insulin levels. Study also says men should exercise to keep weight under control and insulin levels low if they wanna survive prostate cancer. Richard Knox, NPR news.

A majority of members of the US Supreme Court attended a church service today that is called the “Red Mass". It is a tradition before the High Court opens its fall term.  Chief Justice John Roberts was joined by justices Scalia, Kennedy, Thomas, and Breyer, as well as a number of top government officials.  Roman Catholic cardinal John Patrick Foley told the gathering that he sees similarities between priests and lawyers and judges. Because he says all see the law as means in which people can be educated to pursue what is good and to strive for it. The name "Red Mass" dates back centuries in refers to the red vestments worn by police to lead the prayers for guidance for those who seek justice.

the Weather Underground Organization

这个实在有点多......有问题的桐子先去这里看看: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weatherman_(organization)

楼上的桐子,看看相关的背景知识很重要. 看了就差不多明白了哈

Weatherman, known colloquially as the Weathermen and later the Weather Underground Organization, was an American radical left organization founded in 1969 by leaders and members who split from the Students for a Democratic Society (SDS). The group organized a riot in Chicago in 1969 and bombed buildings in the 1970s.

The group emerged from the campus-based opposition to the Vietnam War, as well as the Civil Rights Movements of the late 1960s. During this time, United States military action in Southeast Asia, especially in Vietnam, escalated. In the U.S., the anti-war sentiment was particularly pronounced during the 1968 U.S. presidential election.

The origins of the Weathermen can be traced to the collapse and fragmentation of the Students for a Democratic Society. The split between the mainstream leadership of SDS, or "National Office," and the Progressive Labor Party pushed SDS as a whole further to the left. National Office leaders such as Bernardine Dohrn and Mike Klonsky began announcing their emerging perspectives, and Klonksy published a document entitled "Toward a Revolutionary Youth Movement" (RYM). RYM promoted the philosophy that young workers possessed the potential to be a revolutionary force to overthrow capitalism, if not by themselves then by transmitting radical ideas to the working class. Klonsky's document reflected the growing leftist philosophy of the National Office and was eventually adopted as official SDS doctrine. During the Summer of 1969, the National Office began to split. A group led by Klonsky became known as RYM II, and the other side, RYM I, was led by Dohrn and endorsed more aggressive tactics, as some members felt that years of non-violent resistance had done little or nothing to stop the Vietnam War.
