US President George Bush says the world's top economic powers have agreed to work together to restore stability and growth to the global economy. He made the remarks after meeting with finance ministers who were in Washington D.C. for a gathering of the Group of Seven.

 

And all of us recognize that this is a serious global crisis and therefore requires a serious global response for the good of our people.  We resolve to continue our strong efforts to return our economies to the path of stability and long-term growth. The United States has a special role to play in leading a response to this crisis.  It's why I convened this morning's meeting here at the White House and that's why our government will continue using all the tools at our disposal to resolve this crisis.  At our meeting, Secretary Paulson and I described the bold actions the United States has taken over the past few weeks.

He says ministers will work quickly to protect the bank deposits and bring liquidity to financial institutions to unfreeze the credit market. He also said they agreed to ensure taxpayers are protected.

 

Zimbabwe's opposition says a power-sharing deal is in jeopardy after President Robert Mugabe allocated key ministries to his ZANU-PF party. A government notice said Defense, Home Affairs and Finance ministries were appointed to the ZANU-PF. The opposition Movement for Democratic Change called the move unilateral and said MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai would address it at a rally Sunday in the capital Harare. The appointments were announced one day after talks of Mr. Mugabe, Mr. Tsvangirai and Arthur Mutambara who heads a breakaway opposition faction. The rivals agreed Friday to ask former South Africa President Thabo Mbeki to return to Harare to try to break an impasse over key ministerial posts. A spokesman for Mr. Mbeki says the former president is scheduled to arrive in Harare on Monday.

 

The Turkish military says its warplanes and artillery units have bombed 31 Kurdish rebel bases in northern Iraq. A spokesman for the Kurdistan Workers Party, the PKK says the rebels suffered no casualties in the offensive. Turkish officials have been considering new actions against Kurdish rebels following recent attacks on security forces. They killed 24 people including 17 Turkish soldiers.

 

In the latest news, Iranian state media say members of Iranian religious militia killed four Kurdish separatists in a clash this week near the Iraqi border. The fighting took place late Tuesday / in the Kurdistan province in western Iran.

She says the Acenese are proud to have a person such as him to awaken their / patriotic spirit. A peace deal was brokered in 2005, months after the Indian Ocean Tsunami tore through the country and left about 160,000 dead or missing.

In recent months Indian Kashmir has been hit by some of the largest pro-independence protests since 1989.

 

 The United States will remove North Korea from its list of states sponsor of terrorism in an exchange for a verification plan. That would allow the US and other countries to monitor the communist country's nuclear disarmament. American diplomats say the decision follows an agreement with Pyongyang in which North Korea agreed to US nuclear inspection demands.

Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh inaugurated India Kashmir's first train service/ amid heavy security and a separatist strike protesting his visit. The train service covers 117 kilometers but only a 66-kilometer portion will be used for the moment. On Friday, two people were killed and 75 injured when police fired tear gas at protesters in Indian Kashmir's main city of Srinagar. In recent months Indian Kashmir has been hit by some of the largest pro-independence protests since 1989. 

 

 The United States will remove North Korea from its list of State Sponsors of Terrorism in exchange for a verification plan. That would allow the US and other countries to monitor the communist country's nuclear disarmament. American diplomats say the decision follows an agreement with Pyongyang in which North Korea agreed to US nuclear inspection demands.

US President George Bush says the world's top economic powers have agreed to work together to restore stability and growth to the global economy. He made the remarks after meeting with finance ministers who were in Washington D.C. for a gathering of the Group of Seven.

 

And all of us recognize that this is a serious global crisis and therefore requires a serious global response for the good of our people.  We resolve to continue our strong efforts to return our economies to the path of stability and long-term growth. The United States has a special role to play in leading a response to this crisis.  That’s why I convened this morning's meeting here at the White House and that's why our government will continue using all the tools at our disposal to resolve this crisis.  At our meeting, Secretary Paulson and I described the bold actions the United States has taken over the past few weeks.

 

 

President Bush says some of those actions include boosting liquidity in the markets and cracking down on the abuse of practices in the markets.  The president says financial officials have pledged to support key financial institutions and prevent their failure. He says ministers will work quickly to protect the bank deposits and bring liquidity to financial institutions to unfreeze the credit market. He also said they agreed to ensure taxpayers are protected.

 

Zimbabwe's opposition says a power-sharing deal is in jeopardy after President Robert Mugabe allocated key ministries to his ZANU-PF party. A government notice said Defense, Home Affairs and Finance ministries were appointed to the ZANU-PF. The opposition Movement for Democratic Change called the move unilateral and said MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai would address it at a rally Sunday in the capital Harare. The appointments were announced one day after talks of Mr. Mugabe, Mr. Tsvangirai and Arthur Mutambara who heads a breakaway opposition faction. The rivals agreed Friday to ask former South African President Thabo Mbeki to return to Harare to try to break an impasse over key ministerial posts. A spokesman for Mr. Mbeki says the former president is scheduled to arrive in Harare on Monday.

 

The Turkish military says its warplanes and artillery units have bombed 31 Kurdish rebel bases in northern Iraq. A spokesman for the Kurdistan Workers Party, the PKK says the rebels suffered no casualties in the offensive. Turkish officials have been considering new actions against Kurdish rebels following recent attacks on security forces. They killed 24 people including 17 Turkish soldiers.

 

In / related news, Iranian state media say members of an Iranian religious militia killed four Kurdish separatists in a clash this week near the Iraqi border. The fighting took place late Tuesday in the Kurdistan province in western Iran.
