The world of the day is feckless, spelled feckless. Feckless is an adjective that means weak or ineffective. It can also mean worthless and irresponsible. Here is a word used in the sentence. Although Trevor was admired by his colleagues at the newspapers he turned out to be a feckless reporter, and so he was resigned to the cope desk. Someone feckless is lacking in feck. You might very well ask what is feck. Feck is a Scot’s term that means effect or majority and comes from the alteration of middle English word effect. So something without feck is without effect or ineffective. In the past, feckful meaning efficient sturdy or powerful made an occasional appearence. But in this case the weak has outlived the strong. Feckless is commonly used English word today but feckful has fallen out of use.
