President Barack Obama is headed to Portland Maine today. He is continuing his campaign to explain the benefits of newly enacted healthcare overhaul. Johnsy Huang of Maine Public Radio reports thousands of people have reserved spots at the event to lend support.

Niko Furnod waited eight hours in the cold drizzle for a ticket to the president’s rally. She said she’s hopeful the passage of healthcare legislation will make coverage more affordable for someone like her. “
I don’t have insurance, I don’t work full time, I can’t afford to because I’m a full-time college student. So I think from what I know that it’s gonna be a good thing.”

But
taxpayer rights activists who see the legislation as a costly government takeover of healthcare, say they planned to hold protest before President Obama’s speech. Still other activists say they will be there to urge the president to move on to immigration issues. Now that he’s had his healthcare win, after a stop in Portland, the president will head to Boston for a Democratic national committee fundraiser.
