      Just as you do ,if someone uses your idea ,passing off another person s ideas or words as your own without credit is called plagiarism ,whether it s your friend s term paper or words of a well known author ,plagiarism is cheating and dishonest .Mecathy ,an university student ,she has an signment to write a paper about changing weather patterns .Cathy s project involves building on other people s ideas that she finds in books ,magzines and websites .She s not the kind of person who plagiarize by turning in someone else s work ,but she is aware that plagiarism can happen accidentally .So she follow some basic rules .First ,when she quotos an author directly ,she uses quotation mark around the words to show they are not hers ,along side mention the autor s name .She even does in her notes to make sure she dosent forget .Second ,she is careful to use only her own words when she is not quoting directly . She can summerize or paraphraze idea as long as she is accuate and references the ogrinal source .For example ,she behings with as Smith found .Third ,ideas like drawings ,speeches ,music ,*** models and stastics can also be plagiarized .like words ,she can use them as long as she gets credit .And lastly ,she is aweared that some ideas are common knowledge and don t need a source .For example ,the idea that rain falls from cluds is common knoweldge and dosent need a source .The rainfall measurements by the Weather Agency dose require credit ,a few weeks later ,Cathy turned  her paper with the confidence that she had avoided plagiarism and even maybe provided some new ideas that other students in her filed can use in the future .
