After four days of contentious deliberations, this jury walked from the court room, some hugging the teenage defendant’s family, few speaking any detail about their decision.
We just looked at the evidence. The evidence was the one that brought us to the decision, the self- defense.
Self-defense. That's what the girl attorney hoped the jury would believe. And then a 12 year-old girl shot and killed her father after a year's of physical and sexual abuse. They said she killed him in his sleep with his own gun because she feared he would hurt her again after they had argued.
We both are happy. We are happy for her.
That's the girl's step-grandmother, she, like most of the girl's family, watched most, if not all of the trial where prosecutors claimed the girl only killed her father because she supposingly thought he was too strict.
We are very happy. We've already knew she wasn't guilty. She wasn't guilty. I hoped the same thing happened to her.
Her mother says she has been through so much, that it's time now to look forward to the future.
It's to God's face, this returned me out the way it did, and you know, I'm happy with the decision.
A verdict that left juries in tears. |
It's OK to be different.
Not to be afraid, to understand. |
