Foreign Minister Julia Bishop has urged the world to do more to tackle terrorism during an UN Security Council meeting in New York. Mr.Bishop chaired the meeting, which focused on dealing with the threat posted by Islamist state militants in Syria and Iraq.

In the United States, at least 5 people have died after a huge storm dumped more than a meter of snow in parts of New York state. Temperatures across the country have plummeted to freezing, residents have been trapped in their homes or in cars and the weather has forced many schools to close.
