The launch of the Iphone6 saw Apple become the most popular smart phone brands in China. But that didn’t last long. Chinese smart phone brands are rapidly stealing the show, taking back the smart phone crown. Relatively new kid on the block, Xiao Mi, has taken 15.9% share of the markets. It’s among the most valuable startups in the world, Yes, the whole world, worth Airbnb or Pinterest. Hot on its heels is Huawei, taking 15.7% share of the market in the second quarter, just 0.2% between the two at the top of the table. Huawei is the China’s fastest growing smart phone maker. That leaves Apple with just 11% bite of the market share. Sales drop to whopping 21% between the first and second quarters of the year.
Is the honeymoon period for Apple in China over? Or will the next generation of Iphone help the smart phone veteran show upstar XiaoMi who is boss and help regain the smart phone crown in the world’s second largest economy. |
