Historian Bettany Hughes travels to India, Greece and China on the trail of three giants of ancient philosophy. To begin, she investigates the revolutionary ideas of the Buddha.

[Homework]2016-03-11 BBC:古代圣贤:佛祖释迦牟尼 Buddha-16

For example Bettany, when were you born? You say I was born on so and so date and so and so year, and I say Really? weren't you born nine months before that? You say yes, and then I say weren't you in your mother and father before that? If I took your mother out of you, you are not Bettany anymore, Bettany is made of non-Bettany elements, Bettany is the sunshine, the earth, the England, and then you suddenly start realizing that there was not a single point when Bettany came about you know, so in Buddhism we don't talk about creation, we talk about manifestation, it's not denying that you exist, you exist, but it's denying that we have an intrinsically independent entity.
The Buddha believed the idea of a permanent self wasn't part of the solution, it was actually at the root of the problem, because it made us selfish, self absorbed, it created insatiable craving that enslaved us to transient earthly concerns and kept us trapped in samsara, to rid oneself of this deep seated delusion of self was the way to liberation.
That realization allows you the freedom not to get caught in the I, me, mine which is really the fundamental cause of suffering.

-For example, said, when were you born? And he said, I was born in * date. And I said, Really? Weren't you born nine months before that? And said, Yes. And I said, And when did your father and mother before that? If I took your mother out of you, you are not living any more. But he's a bit of elements, like the sunshine, the earth, the England.  And then he suddenly started realizing that there was not a single point when ** came about. So in Buddhism we don't talk of creation. We talk of manifestation. If not denying that you exist, be exist, but is denying that we have intr** independent entity. The Buddha believed the idea of a permanent self wasn't part of the solution. It was acutally at the root of the problem, because it made it selfish, self-absorbed. It created insatible craving that enslaved us to transient earthly concerns and kept us trapped in samsara. To rid onself up this deep-seated delusion of self was the way to liberation.
-That realization allows you the freedom, not to get caught in the I, me, mine, which is really the fundamental cause of suffering.

Example, Example. OK, Bettany. When were you born, you say I was born in some certain day of some certain year. And I said really? Why did you born 9 months for that? You said yes. When did you XXX your father and mother before that? If I took your mother out of you, you are not Bettany any more. Bettany was none in Bettany’s elements. Bettany, the sunshine, the earth, England. And you start realizing there is not a single point that Bettany came out. So in Buddhism, we don’t have creation, we took manifestation. It’s not denying that you exist. You exist. But it’s denying we have intrinsically independent entity.
The Buddha believed the idea of the permanent self wasn’t the path of the solution. It is actually the root of the problem. Because it made self-fish, self-absorbed. It created insatiable craving that enslave us to transit us to concerns and kept us trapped in Samsara. To read oneself of this deep seeded delusion of ourselves was the way, the liberation.
That realization allows you freedom, not it called I, me, mine, which is really the fundamental cause of suffering.

For example, B, when were you born? You say I was born in some day some year and I said, really? Weren’t you born nine month before that? You said yes, and I said when did you mother and father before that? If I took you mother out of you, you are not B anymore, B is made of non-B elements, B, the sunshine, the earth, the England, and then suddenly started realizing there was not a single point when B came about, you know, so in Buddhism we don’t talk of creation, we talk of manifestation. It’s not to denying that you exist, be exist, but it’s denying that we have an intrinsically independent entity.
The Buddha believe the idea of permanent self wasn’t part of solution, it was actually at the root of problem, because it made selfish, self-absorbed, it created insatiable craving that enslaved us to transient earthly concerns, and kept us trapped in samasa. To rid oneself of this deep-seated delusion of self was the way to liberation.
That realization allowed you freedom not to get caught in I me mine which is really the fundamental cause of suffering.
