[Homework]2016-06-04 英国举行日德兰海战100周年纪念活动

The Battle of Jutland was the biggest naval confrontation in WWI.The German fleet wanted access to the Atlantic;Enlish Channel's too narrow and too well-defended, so they went north towards Scotland. In their way was the Royal Navy, which dorminate the seas. The British Grand Fleet was based here as scarp of flow in AlQuinn. This place was perfect as a base for the Royal navy: they can get access to the Atlantic in one direction and then out to North Sea in the other direction. The Waters are relatively calm as well because the Gulf of flow is surrounded by lots of small little islands they gave British fleet lot of great protection. 250 ships and a hundred thousand men confronted each other in the North Sea.The Command of British Fleet was Edmond George Elokon.  The British wanted to defend their supremacy and their control of the sea; the German wanted to take it away.Well, if that's the mission, they didn't succeed;but as i say, they inflincted a very very heavy pain on the Royal navy. For both navies, this was a cateclismic and very very sad day. The loss of 65000 thousand lives was enormous,to 10% roughly of the British seas, and it wan't just stolkers and ratings. Senior officers and emeralds were also fighting side by side. The old beings has been getting ready for the centenary of the battle that had been a big part of their history.A royal Frikit H. MS Kent, has been joined by a German warship of the Island of Hoy and obious service at the Cathedral in Curkwall tomorrow morning. But the Duke of Vdingburgh who wad due to attend events has been told by the doctor not to travel for health reasons. Buckingham Palace says that he is not heavily ill, but hasn't go to hospital; but Prince Philip who will be 95 in a just few weeks of time and of course he was a former officer in the Royal Navy himself, will be disappointed to miss this event. He is very frustrated and disappointed that he can't be here, and we all very sad that he won't be with us.Any word on his health? He's fine, he's just has a minor elements, i think that he'll be unwise to go out in a wind cementry for a long period at that stage. In the one day fighting, 14 British ships and 9 German were sunk,8.500 were drowned. It will probably going be too far to say this was the decisive battle for the entire war, but the British Sea blockade of Germany remained in place, and Germany navy never sets that again in quite the same way.
