Adjuvant is an adjective,that means serving to aid or contribute, auxiliary.
It can also mean assisting in a prevention emulation or cure of disease, here is the word used in the sentence from New York times by Willen Bradly, kidney cancer has long been resistant to chemotherapy ,but researchers are finding more success with targeted drug treatment called adjuvant therapy delivered after surgery which attacks the genetic mutations underlining a tumors grow.
