With the highest leave vote in the country, this is Britain’s Brexit capital. And people of Boston know why.
Immigration
Those these are hardly surprised on lost count 30% people living this town were born abroad, last year more foreigners came here then left some businesses 95% of the work force of europeans. Some people tell me this town has become unrecognizable. Many of these migrants are vital parts of our community, they work in NHS, in our shops, in our fields. So what happens if they leave?
This is the European market shops center. Here is west street, a mix of culture is plan to see. Bazibabas, the community leader says since Brexit many EU residents are thinking of moving out of the UK.
There are about 30% european people living and working in Boston area, and they hold the shops as well, like in west street they hold more than ten shops. That means if people leave then shops are being closed down one by one as well.
DNHS is one of the areas which could be seriously impacted by EU migrants leave. 339 works for the trust that runs Boston’s hospital, while 25 european doctors are being brought over to make up for lack of local GPs. You see this county like much of the UK is frequently faced with staff shortages. Union say they need an extra 300 nurses and midwives alone, and EU workers are indispensable.
Well the reality is 33 thousand EU nurses are currently working across the DNHS in UK. There are 330 working in this particular organization. I don’t think any organization can sustain such a large lose, in one hit, and cope with it. So I don’t think they would cope it as much as the news say it.
But it’s in the fields surrending Boston and across Lincon shield that you see the real impact of EU migrants.  Whereas there are a few hundred of them in the hospitals, it’s estimated 20~30 thousand working in agriculture. XX has been selling flowers for more than 30 years, all but two of her staff are European, she says she can’t rely on British labor. They are bascially just don’t want to, we lost the work ethic of people wanting this sort of work.
What will happen then, if your EU workers either decided to leave because of Brexit, or have to go?
We would finish eventually overnight, as there are many other industries in this area.
Go back in town, many take a different view and see Brexit as an opportunity for locals. Basically the Brexit would be there. This will entail more businesses recruiting from locally.
Why are British people who are currently unemployed then, doing their jobs?
Because we are lazy, as the plain, plain fact of it though. And because they think with older people here we wouldn’t need to do it.
so why would that change?
The reason it would change is because the job would be vacant. And they would have no excuse.
It may have the highest leave vote, but in reality it would be several years until we know the true impact of that decision. Who would take over the shops after the Europeans go, who will fill their jobs. Whatever happens, it’s highly likely the communities like this one which should be so transformed by a close tie to Europe, will also be the most changed when that settled.
