Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Jack Speer.

President Trump says he believes Pakistan will help the US finally end the war in Afghanistan. NPR's Ishir Roscox reports the president's comments came as he met with Pakistan's prime minister Liaquat Ali Khan in the oval office.

President Trump says it's ridiculous that the US has been at the war in Afghanistan since October, 2001. He said that the war torn country should be responsible for its own re-development.

I have plans all in Afghanistan that I want to win that war. Afghnistan would be wiped off, the face of the youth and with anyone to go that road.

Pakistan's prime minister Liaquat Ali Khan says there is no military solution for the conflict in Afghnistan. Khan said he believes a peace deal as possible under Trump. Ail Shirascox, NPR News, the White House.

Negotiations between the Trump administration and House speaker Nancy Pelosi on the critical debt and budget initiative has born fruit. Both Trump and top congressional leaders say they've agreed on a two-year deal that will restore the government's ability to burrow into the next administration and the bill upon recent large budget increases for both the Pentagon and the domestic agencies. The agreement on the outline for more than 1.3 trillion agency spending as a wind for lawmakers' eager return to Washington and more predictive fiscal path. Though both republicans and democrats may find fall with the compromises required.

An audit by the department of house and human services finds government hospitals are putting native Americans at increased risk of opioid abuse and overdose. Jackie Fortier of member station KGOU reports the federal review of five hospitals was released today.

The community served by the Indian health service has been hit hard by the opioid crisis. Federal investigators focused on IHS hospitals in Arizona, New Mexico, Minnesota, Oklahoma and Dakota. They found providers prescribing high amounts of opioids and not following federal guidelines. The head of patient safety for IHS, doctor Miles Rodax, calls the federal audit helpful.

Room was built in a day. We like other health systems have been working to improve our focus on opioid to provide that more safe way but these take time to a chief there.

He says IHS will work to better track patients health records and pay management and to tighten security measures. For NPR News, I'm Jackie Fortier in Normanx, Oklahoma.

Equifax says it's agreed to pay up to 700 million dollars to settle a 2017 data breach that exposed social security numbers in private information, nearly 150 million people. Approved settlement with the US consumer financial protection bureau in the FTC as well as with 48 states in the district of Columbia and Puerto Rico, who provided up to 425 million for consumers. 100 million-dollar civil penalty and other putout would also be levied.  

On Wall Street the Dow closed up 17 points. This is NPR.

The Trump admistration says it intends to penalize a Chinese company that's top executive for violating US restrictions on dealing with Iran. Oil exports are currently the large source of foreign income for Iran and the US sanction has been raising tensions between the US and IRan. China has continued to import Iranian oil. With other countries have stopped at fear of US penalties. Iran meanwhile in recent days has seized the British flag oil tanker that claims it violated international rules. They announced the arrest of 17 Iranian nationals it claims were spying for the CIA.

Tributes have been paid to the chief of international atomic energy agency.  Yukiya Amano has died at the age of 72, while still in office. Gary Skyrinex reports from Vienna.

The quietly spoken in Japanese diplomat who led the nuclear watchdog for a decade, has been praised for his commitment to nuclear disarmament and peace. President Trump's national security advisor John Boltonx, said Amano's passing was a great loss. The EU's foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini called him a man of extraordinary dedication. While Iran's deputy foreign minister praised his skills and professionalism. Amano's greatest challenger IAEA chief was placing Iran's nuclear program, having led the agency through diplomatic minefield of the Iran nuclear negotiations. He often stressed his role was technical not political. For NPR News, I'm Carry Skyrinex, in Vienna.

Main based  clothing company, LObingx says it's poised to open its first store in Canada. THe company says the new store will open next month in the suburb outside Toronto. Retail chain announced last year intended to expand into Canada over the next decade.
