In Israel, the votes are still being counted in what is expected to be a close race that will determine if Benjamin Netanyahu remains prime minister. NPR's Daniel Estrin has more from Tel Aviv.

Initial exit polls show a close race between the right-wing Netanyahu and his main centrist challenger Benny Gantz, a former Army chief of staff. The close race raises the possibility that Netanyahu won't have a path toward creating a coalition with his right-wing allies. That could end his decade in power. One obstacle comes from the former right-wing ally of Avigdor Lieberman whose smaller party could tip the balance. He is calling for Netanyahu and Gantz to join forces and build the coalition together. Israel's president says he'll urge party leaders to form a new government quickly. Daniel Estrin, NPR News, Tel Aviv.
