A day of worldwide protest on climate change is reaching its climax in New York, where people are gathering in battery park for a rally where they will be addressed by ***, the Swedish teenager who inspired the protest. *** hopes today’s demonstrations will mark a social tipping point in persuading world leaders to take action on climate change.

The US has signed an agreement on immigration with El Salvador. A joint statement said it was part of a wider strategy to fight organized crime and human-trafficking. The details are expected to be hammered out in the coming month. Neighboring Guatemala has already signed an accord on migration with the US, but it hasn’t been ratified by the Guatemalan congress. Mexico has refused to sign such an agreement.

Facebook has suspended tens of thousands of APPs on its platform in response to a review of privacy practices launched last year following the Cambridge analytical scandal. It emerged that the political consultancy had hijacked the personal data of tens of millions of Facebook users.

President Trump says there is nothing inappropriate about a controversial conversation he had with a foreign leader. There was a political row over a whistle blower’s complaint that the president made a promised to an unnamed foreign leader.

A bomb attack near the Iraqi city of *** has left at least 12 people dead. Reports say a roadside device targeted a passenger bus near a security check point.

Many Shia Muslins have been visiting *** this month, to mark the festival of ***.

A ceremony has been held in southern Spain to mark 500 years since the start of the expedition led by Ferdinand Magellan that resulted in the first circum-navigation of the globe. The ceremony saw naval vessels and flotila of smaller boats accompanying a replica of Magellan’s ship the Victoria in the seas of ***.

瑞典环保小将 Greta ThunbergIn August 2018, Greta Thunberg started a school strike for the climate outside the Swedish Parliament that has since spread all over the world and now involves over 100,000 schoolchildren. The movement is now called Fridays For Future.
Thunberg has spoken at climate rallies in Stockholm, Helsinki, Brussels and London. In December she attended the United Nations COP24 in Katowice, Poland, where she addressed the Secretary-General and made a plenary speech that went viral and was shared many million times around the globe. In January 2019 she was invited to the World Economic Forum in Davos where her speeches again made a worldwide impact.
Thunberg tries to live a low-carbon life. Therefore she is vegan, and she doesn't fly. She has been named as one of the worlds most influential teens by TIME magazine.
