The House intelligence committee is adding a new name to its list of public witniesses in this week's impeachment hearings. State department official David Holmes will now testify Thursday. Here as NPR's Susan Davis.

David Holmes already testified behind close doors last week. He told congress that he overheard a phonecall on July 26th between president Trump and then embassador to the European Union Gordon Sondland. Holmes heard Trump asked Sondland about the status of the investigations the president requested in his phone with the Ukrainian president the day before. Revelation is potentially critical to the impeachment process. Because it puts the president squarely in the action for pressing for investigations of the BIden family. So far Republicans in the White House have largely dismissed other witnesses as only having second hand information. Susan Davis, NPR News the Capitol.

Supreme court justice John Roberts is ordering an indefinitely delay in a house demand for president Trump's finance records. Now its representatives have said it would agree to a ten-day halt in its battle to obtain president Trump's financial records, that would object anything longer.  The top lawyer for the House responding to an emergency filed in Friday asked the supreme court to block enforcement of the subspoena issued by a House committee to Trump's accountants. High court has a separate pending request from Trump to block a subpoena from a New York prosecutor for his tax returns.

House lawmakers are rushing to approve a short-term spending measure to fund the government pass a crucial deadline this week that could come as early as tomorrow. NPR's Claudia Grisales reports the legislation needs to win congressional approval or the government will shut down.

The four-week funding measure would keep the government afloat until December 2020 cencus count and a pay raise for the military. If the House approves the measure will be up to the senate to pass the plan in time. The government is already operating of a short term funding signed into law in September. Lawmakers have failed to reach a deal on permanent spending for the 2020 fiscal year which began October one. Republicans and democrats so remain far apart on border wall funding and other controversial issues. Claudia Grisales NPR News, Washington.

President Trump met with federal reserve board chairman Jerome H. Powell at the White House today in a meeting the president called quote, very good and cordial. Trump submitting the FED chief to talk about the current state of the economy and interest rates. Trump's numerous tweets and else words accused the central bank of raising interest rates to aggressively in the past and being to slow to react changes in the economic landscape. The FED however is unwonted some of the changes cutting short term rates three times this year. In a statement, Powell had a message that was similar to his recent congressional testimony in which he said the economy is in good shape and the FED will hold off cutting rates for the time being.

On Wall Street stocks closed higher. The Dow Jones industrial average up 31 points. The NASDAQ rose nine points. You are listening to NPR.

US automer Ford is out with its first all electric SUV, seeking to use the popular Mustang name to brand the entry in the market place. Ford marking the start of what is expected to be a slue of new entrance for expectations the current 16 electric vehicle models for sale in the US will grow to as many as 18 by the year 2022. Official say the increase selection in longer range of the new models is likely to (become) make more popular. The new Ford Mustang SUV will have a range of 213 to more 300 miles defending on how it's equipped.

North Korea says it's no longer intertested in holding unproductive presidential summits with the US. NPR's Anthony Kuhn reports from Seoul that Pyongyang laid remarks and rebattle to president Trump's tweet over the weekend.

Veteran diplomat and foreign ministry advisor Kim Kye Gwan said in a statement carried by state media for despite free meetings between president Trump and Kim Jeong-eun ties between the two countries have improved very little. Kim added that Pyongyang has no intention of handing president Trump any achievements he can boost about. Trump claimed in a tweet that he alone could give Pyongyang what it seeks. You should act quickly to have the deal done, see you soon, he wrote. Pyongyang said last week that Washington is proposed to resume solve negotiations in December but accused Washington of trying to buy its time without offering substantial concessions. Crude oil futures prices moved lower today. Oil had fallen amid what appears to be somewhat dimmer propects rate quick resolution to the long running US China trade battle. Oil was down $0.67 a barrel to $57.05 a barrel in New York. I'm Jack Speer NPR News.
