A video was held at the naval air station Pensacola today for the three people shot and killed when a Saudi military pilot opened fire at the base. Sheriff deputies then shot and killed the gunman. Roger White Housex was at the ceremony. He says he will always remember the victims.

Authorities say the shooter was one of about 200 foreign nationals getting training at the base. It's part of a program for US allies who buy US military air craft. Defence secretary Mark Esper says despite news that the gunman appears to have opposed criticism of US warsome possibly quoted Osama bin Laden. He's prepared to call the attack terrorism just yet.

PResident Trump and IRan's foreign minister says the US and IRan have exchange prisoners. An Iranian scientist arrested in Chicago on sanctions violations is heading home. As is an American graduate student imprisoned on espionage changes. NPR's Peter Kenyon reports.

A family is completed again as the wife of Princeton graduate student Xiyue Wang as news of his release broke. Wang had been arrested in 2016 when working on his doctoral dissertation in Iran. US officials denied Iran's claim that Wang had been sent to spy on Iran. President Trump and secretary of state Mike Pompeo both held Wang's release. Iran's foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif posted the photos of himself flying back to Iran with scientist Massoud Soleimani, who had been arrested in Chicago last year and charged with violating trade sanctions. The swap comes amid generally hostile relations between Washington and Teheran. Peter Kenyon NPR News, Istanbul.

Medicares open enrollment period supposes to end today. But as NPR's Amy Held reports a faulty website means seniors make another chance to improve their coverage for next year.

Today is the official deadline for people with Medicare to sign up for private drug and medical plans for next year. But the centers for medicare and medicates service told Kaiser Health News that it's providing an extension. And beneficiaries will still be able to change their plans into next year. The reason the government website main to help them navigate instead left many users lost. Launched this summer, Plan Finder was played with inaccurate pressing and confusing search options, according to consumer advocates, tens of millions of Americans rely on medicare, the federal health insurance program for those 65 and older, and some younger people with disabilities. In Hongkong, pro-government demonstrators are on streets again today. But the city's new police commissioner Chris Tang says he will adopt both hard and soft approaches to the demonstrations that have engulfed the city for months. Tang was appointed to the job last month. This ahead of a march plan for tomorrow that does have government approval. You are listening to NPR News.

Strikes and periodic protests against president Emmanuel Macron's policies are disrupting weekend travel around France. NPR's Eleanor Beardsley reports there is gridlock in Paris.

With little public transport running, the streets are clogged with cars and taxis, bikes and scooters. But the congestion doesn't seem to have dumped holiday spirits. Parisians and tourists are out to join the decorations and lights. The strike is set to end Tuesday but unions say they will start again if Macron doesn't abandon his plans to change the country's pension system.

Denmark has passed its first ever climate action legislation, pledging to become carbon neutral country by the year 2050. Teri Schultz reports this comes as UN climate talks contine in Madrid and the European gears up for a climate center summit.

On the way to their goal of reaching carbon neutrality, Denish lawmakers voted to reduce the country's CO2 out put by 2/3 by the year 2030 measured by 1990 levels. They will be a 2025 target set to make sure things are around the red check and annual reviews were authorities must report what they are doing to reach the targets. While ambitious Denmark is not a leader among its Nordic neighbors. Sweden has pledged to be carbon neutral by 2045, Finland by 2035 and Norway by 2030. European Union leaders will meet in Brussel Thursday where they'll consider whether to adopt an EU wide commitment to have met zero emissions like Denmark by 2050. The Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland have not yet come on board. For NPR News, I'm Teri Schultz in Brussel.
