After a delay by the House representatives president Trump's impeachment trial will move forward this week. NPR's Mara Liasson has more on what's ahead.

House speaker Nancy Pelosi will send articles of impeachment over to the senate this week. And then the senate will conduct a trail on senate majority leader Mitch McConnell's terms. Pelosi says not calling witnesses is the equivalent of a cover up, but McConnell says he won't discuss calling witnesses until after opening statements. Meanwhile president Trump has many minds on the subject. Yesterday he tweeted that Pelosi and House intelligence committee chairman Adam Schiff should both be called as witnesses. A few hours later, he tweeted that to have a trial rather than a right dismissal would give the democrat witch hunt creditability it shouldn't have. So sometimes the president sounds like he thinks a trial would be good for him, other times he wants to deep six the whole thing. Mara Liasson NPR News, Washington.

Trump was impeached weeks ago by the House for abuse of power and obtruction of congress over his dealings with Ukraine.

United States is expelled 21 military cadets training at bases across the US. The move is a result of an investigation into the fetal shooting at naval air station Pensacola that left three sailors dead, eight other people injured. The gunman also a Saudi trainee was shot and killed by law enforcement. Attorney general William Barr says investigators didn't find any evidence that he was affiliated with as terrorist group. The 21 trainees have been sent home for allegedly having anti-American sentiment. Some had contacted with child pornography. But they are not accused of helping the gunman. They do face possible discipline once to get home to Saudi Arabia.

Senator Bernie Sanders's presidential campaign is firing back after reports that he once told fellow candidate Elizabeth Warren that he didn't think a woman could be elected president in 2020. NPR's Danielle Kurtzleben has more.

CNN reported that Sanders said this to Warren in a private meeting in December, 2018. After the meeting, CNN reported the two senators also agreed to avoid attacking each other. The reporting was based on conversations with four people said to be familiar with what happened at the meeting. Sanders has responded in a statement provided to NPR saying that those sources are lying. He writes quote it is ludicrous to believe that at the same meeting where Elizabeth Warren told me she was going to run for president. I would tell her that a woman couldn't win. The story comes on the hills of news that Sander's volunteers were using a script to minishing Warren's electability. Warren responded that she is quote disappointed. A library of congress has named author Jason Reynolds as its new embassador for young people's literature. Reynolds has written 13 books for young readers. His most recent, Look Both Ways, a tale told in ten blocks was a national award book finalist. NPR's Petra Mayer has more.

Jason Reynolds will spend the next two years travelling the country visiting libraries and talking to kids. He says his goal isn't just to get them to read more. It's to get them to see the value in their own personal stories. He will launch a program called Grab the Mic: tell your story and he will be partnering with the none profit organization story core to create a recorded archive of those stories. Reynolds takes over from Jacqueline Woodson. Previous embassadors have been included Walter Dean Myers and Kate DiCamillo. He will be introduced in a ceremoney at the library of congress on Thursday.
