President Donald Trump thanked Americans foo doing their part to fight the spread of the coronavirus.
Speaking today at his administration's daily coronavirus briefing, Trump said despite mounting Covid-19 deaths, there's a reason for optimism, including indications the country could be on track for far fewer deaths what some models have been showing.
"Even during this painful week, we see glimmers of very, very strong hope. And this would be a very painful week. And next week, at least part of next week, but probably all of it, look at one person dies is a painful week. And we know that's going to unfortunately happen. There is a month through we're fighting."
The death toll form the Covid-19 in the US has now risen above 12,000. Trump called on Congress to approve an additional 250 billion in funding for business loans under a coronavirus rescue program.

In Milwaukee密尔沃基, a city that typically has 180 polling places, voters waited for hours today, on the only five polling locations that were open for the state's primary. XX from member station, Wisconsin Public Radio has more.

She requested an absentee ballot weeks ago, but never received it.

US Supreme Court ruled yesterday all absentee ballots had to be post marked by today. In Milwaukee, 45,000 ballots had not been returned as of Monday.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is in stable condition and breathing on his own after being admitted to the hospital to be treated for Covid-19 according to the UK government. NPR's XX has the latest from London.
The UK government says Johnson who was hospitalized Sunday is receiving oxygen and remains in intensive care. Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab, who's now carrying on some of Johnson's duties, said he expect the Prime Minister to make a speedy recovery.
"I'm confident he'll pull through 渡过难关, because there's one thing, I never has the opportunity to say, he's a fighter. And he'll back to Buckingham***, leading us through this crisis in short order *."
In the past day, a record 786 people have reportedly died of Covid-19 in the UK, risen the total to more than 6100. At the same time, officials here say new cases have been growing at about 4000 a day showing possible signs of flattening.

Stocks, after a big morning rally, gave back pretty much all of their gains, just before the close. The DOW was down 26 points today. The NASDAQ fell 25 points. The S&P dropped 4 points.

Nearly 60% of the 217 people aboard a cruise ship off the coast of Uruguay are tested positive for the coronavirus. The passengers are from variety of countries including Australia, Europe and the US. Aurora Expeditions曙光远征游船公司, the Australian operator of the Greg Mortimer Ship says it's working to disembark crew and passengers, to arrange flights to their home countries, says there are currently no fevers. It says those testing positive are mostly asymptomatic无症状感染者. The cruise ship departed March 15th from voyage to Antarctica and South Georgia(南佐治亚岛,南大西洋).

Japanese auto makers, Honda and Nissan, are furloughing停薪留职 tens of thousands of workers at US car plants and they continue to keep those plants closed because of the coronavirus. NPR' XX has the story.
In March, car makers started shutting down production lines across north America to avoid spreading the coronavirus. From the big three*? in Detroit to Honda, Nissan, BMW, and Volvo, factory after factory went dark. The shutdowns were supposed to last a week or two, but they had been extended as the coronavirus crisis deepens. Now Honda says it will no longer pay workers who are staying home although they will still receive benefits. And Nissan has announced temporarily layoffs. Between the two companies nearly 25,000 workers are going without pay, an encourage to seek government benefits.

White House Press Secretary, Stephanie Grisham, is leaving her post. Grisham is assuming the position of chief of staff to First Lady, Melania Trump. Grisham succeeded Sarah Sanders and Shine Spicer, ahead a dubious distinction of never holding a formal press briefing.
