1.  PDT was on Capitol Hill today luncheon with Senate Republicans as they considered the next steps in cv response. A spokesman saying the purpose of the visit was to thank Senators for their work during the crisis n to discuss safely reopening the country's shattered economy. Trump on a later cabinet session day also announced the signing of an executive order directing federal agencies to eliminate regulatory road blocks was getting the economy moving again.

"U hv a chance to cut regulations while I look at EPA环保局 sitting here, and I look at the Veterans退役军人事务部 sitting here, and I look at all the different ppl, Homeland Security, JaD______, I look at all of the great talent around this table. U hv a right to do sthing that nobody would ever hv thought. U hv the right to do that."

President did not elaborate on what regulations would be waived, suspended, or eliminated.

2.  Michael Flynn is asking a Federal Appeals Court to grant the Justice Department's motion to drop the case against the former National Security Adviser. As npr's XX explains. His request is the latest twist in Flynn's legal saga.

The Justice Department moved early this month to drop its case against Flynn who pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about his contacts with the Russian ambassador. The District Court Judge presided over the case, Emmet Sullivan has not granted that request yet, instead, he has made moves that he is skeptical of the government's reasons for wanting to dismiss the case against Flynn. Sullivan has for example appointed a retired judge to present arguments in opposition to the government's move to dismiss. Now Flynn's attorney has filed an emergency petition with the DC Circuit Court. They want the Appeals Court to grant the government motion to drop the Flynn case. They also wanted it be assigned away from Judge Sullivan.

3.   More evidence today that ppl have been avoiding the hospital for emergency since the cv hit. NPR's XX reports in the latest study in the New England Journal of Medicine.

Researchers at a huge health care provider, Kaiser Permanente凯撒医疗集团, of Northern California, have track a sharp decline in admissions for heart attacks since the first cv death in the Bay Area. Hospital admissions for that condition dropped by 50%. But Doctor Matt Solomon says that's probably not due to a lower risk of heart attacks during the shotdown.

"There's no intervention that we know of that can reduce the heart attack rate by 50%. We've never seen that. And if u look at other types of national emergencies, like earthquakes or terrorist attacks, heart attack rates actually go up."

He suspects ppl have been afraid to go to the hospital. But they shouldn't be, he says. Ppl with symptoms like chest pain and shortness of breath should call 911, and not try to tough it out at home.

4.  Retail giant Wal-Mart says it has spent 900 million dollars in additional compensation to workers who's been staffing its checkout lines and warehouses during the cv, even though the company says profit and sales for the fiscal first quarter topped expectations.

5.  Google says it's getting out of the oil and gas business at least when it comes to building custom artificial intelligence tools 定制人工智能工具 to speed up extraction. The announcement is coming after a Green Peace report documented how Google, along with tech giants Microsoft and Amazon use AI computing power to help these companies find and access gas and oil deposits in the US and around the world. The environmental group accuses the tech firms of undermining their own climate change pledges by partnering with big oil companies, including Shell 壳牌, BP 英国石油公司, Chevron 雪佛龙, Exxonmobil 埃克森美孚.

6.  Carbon emissions fell substantially in the spring due to global slowdown. That's according to a new study. It's still may not be enough to meet the international climate agreement though. As NPR's XX report.

Cars and trucks are largely stayed off the roads this spring. So in April, daily global carbon emissions fell by as much as 17%. That's a historic drop as scientists reported in the journal Nature Climate Change. But that doesn't mean the climate will stop warming. If u think of the atmosphere is a bathtub, the world has essentially turned down the faucet 把水龙头关小 this year, but the tube is still filling. And scientists say it's unlikely the world will hit the annual reductions needed to avoid the worst impacts of climate change. To do that the lockdown would have to continue for the rest of the year.

7.  Nations builders broke ground on fewer new projects in April.
The commerce Department announcing today ground-breaking for various types of projects plunged 30.2% in April. That included more than 25% decline in single family home building. Permits for new housing, considered a key barometer going forward for the housing market, drop 20.8%.
